Redskins safety Sean Taylor dies

Really tragic news this morning as Redskins safety Sean Taylor has died a day after being shot in his Florida home.

MIAMI -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor died early Tuesday, a day after he was shot at home by what police say was an intruder. He was 24.

Family friend Richard Sharpstein said Taylor's father told him the news around 5:30 a.m.

"His father called and said he was with Christ and he cried and thanked me," said Sharpstein, Taylor's former lawyer. "It's a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man, and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans."

Gut wrenching news for Taylor's family, his teammates, and his fans. He was only 24 years old.

Andy Reid had this to say on Taylor's passing.

"Sean's passing will have an impact on the Washington Redskins organization and the entire NFL community," Reid said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sean's family, friends and teammates, including our own Jerome McDougle, who played with Sean at the University of Miami."

This must hit home particularly hard for McDougle not only because Taylor was a friend and former teammate, but for the fact that Jerome himself was shot while at home in Florida.

Many fans from all NFL teams have been stopping by Hogs Haven to talk about Taylor and The Curly R has had excellent coverage of the story.
