Redskins safety Sean taylor shot, now in critical condition

Pretty shocking news breaking this morning about a division rival and a guy Eagles fans know quite well. Redskins safety Sean Taylor was shot at his home in Florida.

Washington Redskins star safety Sean Taylor was shot at his home Monday and was in critical condition, and police are investigating a possible robbery.

Officers were sent to Taylor's home at about 1:45 a.m. after his girlfriend called 911 and said he was shot in his lower body, Lt. Nancy Perez said. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, she said, but did not disclose how many times he was shot.

Florida is not a safe place for football players. Eagles fans may remember how Eagles DE and former first round pick Jerome McDougle was shot in an attempted carjacking in Florida a few years ago. Also, Patriots rookie safety Brandon Merriweather was was shot at and returned fire during a driveby shooting while he was a member of the Miami Hurricanes football team. Sean Taylor himself has been involved in gun incidents in the past.

We're all certainly hoping Taylor makes it through this and I'll be sure to pass along any updates about his condition.
