Just an update on some coaching shakeups going on at the NovaCare complex... according to the Eagles Website John Harbaugh, who has been the special teams coach for the past 9 years, has been moved to secondary coach. Last year's secondary coach Sean McDermott has been moved to linebackers coach to replace Steve Spagnuolo, who was hired as the Giant's defensive coordinator earlier this week.
For Harbaugh, it was kind of one step back to take two forward.
For Harbaugh, the move represents an opportunity to move up the coaching ladder on the defensive side of the ball and, ultimately, become a head coach. He was reportedly in the mix for a couple of head coaching jobs on the college side in recent months, but the fact that he has been exclusively a special teams coach at the NFL level may have hindered his chances.
Although Harbaugh has been quite good over the past few years, I think the special teams took a step back this year. The Eagles are now in the market for a new special teams coordinator.
