Reggie Brown gets his slice of the pie

Despite the fact that Tuesday's deadline for putting signing bonus money on this year's cap has passed, the Eagles locked up yet another young player in WR Reggie Brown.

Reggie will sign a 5 year contract extension on Friday and is the 3rd Eagle from last year's draft class to sign a big extension and the 7th overall player this year to be extended.

Despite the fact that Reggie is tied for the NFL lead in drops he has been having a very good 2nd year tied for 3rd in the NFC with 5 TDs.

That leaves only LJ Smith as the obvious young player lacking a long term deal. A fact he is not terribly happy about.

"I thought we'd be a little closer," Smith said. "I don't know the true gap. I don't think it's that far off... I'd love to be here, but I can't really worry about [the contract]. I just have to worry about trying to get this team to the playoffs this year."

Smith said not letting a contract disagreement affect you is "easier said than done."

"As a player, you come here and you work out and you try to give your all, and it's unfortunate if the team doesn't [recognize that effort]... as a player, it would feel really good to come here for a second contract with the team I started with."
