Eagles news from Texas and a Robertson update

From North Texas the Star-Telegram says local boy Kevin Kolb could be "one play away."
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb spent the weekend fishing Lake Granbury. This fall, though, the Stephenville product doesn't want to be telling any fish stories about the one that got away.

Eagles coach Andy Reid recently said Kolb will be given every opportunity to win the backup job from A.J. Feeley.

"It's obviously a big step, because you're one play away then," Kolb said in a telephone interview. "You've got to pay attention a little more; you've got to be ready; you've got to stay focused.

"I'm treating it like I'm going to go out there, and I'm going to compete the best I can. I'm going to compete like I'm going out for the starting job, because that's what I feel like I'm doing. When I get my chance, I've got to be ready to roll with it and make some plays."

Andy gets a rimshot for the closing line...

"This is always a big off-season for a rookie," Reid said. "He gets a lot of individual attention. ...Kevin is the only rookie [quarterback] going through that. It's been good for him.

"To say I know where he is, it's a projection. I think I do, but he hasn't been a starter, and you know Philadelphia is a pretty easy city to play quarterback."

Reid, in case you didn't figure it out, was kidding about that last part.

From Houston, Texas... Now that Steve McNair has retired, Jon Runyan is the last Houston Oiler left in the NFL.

Eagles right tackle Jon Runyan, a fourth-round pick in 1996, is the last Oiler playing in the NFL.

Quarterback Steve McNair's retirement last week left Runyan as the only active Oilers player.

McNair was a first-round pick in 1995 and played two seasons in the Astrodome until the Oilers moved to Nashville in 1997 and became the Tennessee Oilers before changing their name to Titans in 1999.

It turns out the Dewayne Roberston to the Eagles rumors are not as hot as first mentioned.

It is true that New York Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson visited the Eagles for a series of medical examinations, but, according to a league source, the visit took place nearly a month ago and it is "a long shot" that he will be dealt to Philadelphia.

Finally, Geoff Mosher wrote a great article on Jamaal Jackson's offseason training program and his newfound commitment to health and training.

Jamaal
I read that article about Jackson's offseason training yesterday and thought to myself, "that's why there's competition on the roster".

I can't remember where I read it, but somewhere I saw that Jamaal was  statistically one of the top 10 (#5?)centers in the league - probably Football Outsiders but I can't find the article this morning.

Undrafted Rookie to Top 5 player at his position to whimpering puddle of meat, just to keep his edge?

Jamaal - yesterday I went for my longest run of the year because of you, hopefully some of your teammates are similarly inspired.
