Lito not leaving?

"As of now, the best thing to do is keep him"
Yesterday Joe Banner addressed, among other things, the possibility of trading Lito Sheppard and suggested the best idea may be to keep him.

I gotta say, this sound like Banner playing some poker to me.

Team president Joe Banner acknowledged on Tuesday that other teams have shown "significant interest" in acquiring Sheppard's services. Banner said that the Eagles have to make a determination whether it's best for the team to move him or bring him back. As of now, Banner said "the best thing to do is keep him."

"You don't see many 26-year-old Pro Bowl players who there is even a possibility of acquiring," said Banner. "If you look at the history of player trades, you'll see a very short list of players that age, that caliber of player, that kind of character. There is significant interest, but the reason there is interest is because he's a good player, which is a compelling reason, also, to keep him. We'll just have to weigh the options of keeping him or whatever else is available, and in the end (head coach) Andy (Reid) will make a decision as to which he thinks is better."

I still fully expect Lito get dealt on draft day. Depending on what players fall what teams... Lito's value could go shoot up.

Joe also goes on to address the idea of a new draft pick value chart. It's definitely worth checking out, because despite what some fans may feel about Banner... he's clearly one of the smartest people period when it comes to talking about the business of the NFL.

Hes full of crap
I bet his press confrence was directed more towards the teams making offers for lito. Hes pretty much telling them to ante up or you dont get him.

I wouldn't
be surprised if they did hold on to Lito this year if they don't get what they want. They aren't paying him tons of money they might as well hold on to him for the right price. I think it is more likely that he is traded on draft day but I don't think it unreasonable for him to hang around either.

Lito
I would actually love for Lito to stick around unless we get a first round pick! Why not keep a Pro Bowl corner? I understand the injury concerns but he is a player when healthy. Seattle gave up a first round pick for Deon Branch, I think Lito is worth more than him.

Doesn't always work that way
Lito is certainly worth more than Deion Branch, but there really is no comparison.  You're talking about a bad trade from two years ago.

Look at the market for corners this off-season.  2-time Pro Bowler DeAngelo Hall went for a second and a fifth plus got a $60 million dollar contract, and he is younger than Lito and doesn't have the injury history.

Lito probably better compares to Leigh Bodden, another excellent 26-year-old corner who has missed games over the past several seasons.  He was traded for a third rounder and underachiever DT Shaun Rogers.

Someone might eventually give up a first rounder, but that has happened yet this off-season so we can't count on some team making a stupid decision just because it's happened before.

Oops
The Browns actually gave up a third rounder in that deal... Bodden had 6 INTs last season, the first in which he started 16 games.  Lito has better career numbers, but it just goes to show how injury history affects a player's value.

Lito
I also would like him to stick around. It's really in his best interest to stick around and have a much more productive year and then command some more money.

If he does get traded I hope its for a 2009 draft pick rather than moving up for any players this year.

BUT
...if we do decide to keep him, is he going to play nice? Or will he hold out and complain about his contract? And will that effect his performance? He hasn't complained publicly before but maybe he's expecting to be traded. And if he isn't, how does he deal?

injuries
I would love to keep him, but it's taking a chance. If he gets hurt again, his value will fall way down, and then we'll be screwed next year if we want to trade him.

Lito
It really looks impossible for him to say.  This is just posturing by Banner, as many have said.

Neither Lito nor Sheldon is going to accept a nickel-corner role.  And Sheldon isn't moving to safety at this point in his career, so that dream is over.

So there's no room for Lito.  The question now is just how much the front office can wrangle for him.

Just another reason draft day is going to actually be exciting.

Chad
See what PFT and ESPN are reporting about Ocho?

Could it happen? Lito for Chad?

Or would we be in for the repeat of #81?

saw that
i think this is a possibility. this will be an interesting draft day. I dont think he will be like owens. As long as were winning, i think he'd be happy. He would look good in an eagles uniform. Im not counting on it though.

chad report
put the link up of what your talking about please. Lito for Chad?

Banner wants more for Lito,
The Eagles are in a really good situaton. I just want to point that out. I think it's a win win. I would rather see Todd Herramens traded than Lito but I'm not in charge over there.

Lito staying would bulster our D even more. (I really think we could have a top 3 D in the NFL!) That would be really nice to have come Dec.

Lito being traded for Ocho Cinco? That would be really awesome but I heard that the numbers in Chad's contract make the deal really hard to pull off.

Lito being traded for a pick this year would be cool with me as long as it is a package deal where the Birds could have like 3 picks in the 1st and 2nd. Then we could trade some of our lower ones for next year!!! I think we all like to stock up those picks.
I don't want to see like a BS picks traded for him though. We have a lot of talent and potential to win RIGHT NOW!!! so, I do understand the value of balencing our team for every year I would like to kill DALLAS and NY this year and win a Superbowl. That would be really nice.

Don't you guys Agree?

Idunno. What's the big deal about winning a Super Bowl? I'm just glad the kids get to go out there and have fun.

Ha
Well done.

That kicked my little brain into gear, and this might be an interesting exercise... what does the all-time Eagles "Fun" team look like?

For starters...

Hugh Douglas
Freddy Mitchell
McNabb

Anyone else find this fun?  Or are you not as bored as I am.

Chad Johnson
I have stood up for Chad Johnson many times here saying he is not another Terrible Owens.  I still believe this to be true but with that said I doubt the Eagles will take a chance.  The bad taste is still in their mouth.

Check out yardbarker it's already turning into the Ocho Cinco to the Eagles website like it was the Fitzy to the Eagles not to long ago.  I think Cincy will stick to there guns and keep Chad on if he doesn't show up to anything they will just slap the "conduct dentremental to the team" tag and continue on this year.  It is cheaper for them to keep him even if he doesn't play than for them to trade him.
