Eagles 08/09 Schedule

Here it is, the 08/09 schedule for your Philadelphia Eagles.

Hey, we finally open at home!

Week 1 - St. Louis 1pm
Week 2 - at Dallas Monday Night Football
Week 3 - Pittsburgh 4:15pm CBS national game
Week 4 - at Chicago Sunday Night Football
Week 5 - Washington 1pm
Week 6 - at San Francisco
Week 7 - BYE
Week 8 - Atlanta 1pm
Week 9 - at Seattle 4pm
Week 10 - NY Giants Sunday Night Football
Week 11 - at Cincinnati
Week 12 - at Baltimore
Week 13 - Arizona Thanksgiving Night
Week 14 - at NY Giants
Week 15 - Cleveland Monday Night Football
Week 16 - at Washington
Week 17 - vs Dallas

Quick thought

Love that we open at home, especially against what should be a very beatable opponent in STL.

The Eagles will play in prime time at least 5 times.

We host a Thanksgiving game!

No killer 3 back to back road games this year, although no consecutive home games. We've got a good bye right smack in the middle of the season. All in all a pretty well balanced and good schedule.

rough schedule
I think this schedule start with some strong defensive teams. Our offense is gonna have to start hot from jump. No waiting into game three to get it together this year. Easy end of schedule though.
Dallas Sucks

Well...
St. Louis has been a pretty terrible defensive team -- but yes, after that it gets pretty tough.

by BFH on Apr 15, 2008 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

All winnable games though
The Steelers are probably the toughest of that stretch and we get them at home. We beat Dallas away last year and Chicago doesn't scare me.

Indeed
The first half of the schedule looks pretty favorable -- if you judge by last year's performances (since it's April and we don't have any other options, why not?)

by BFH on Apr 15, 2008 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah
Obviously we have very little idea how good or bad any of these teams will be...

by JasonB on Apr 15, 2008 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

not to bad in terms of traveling
of the two west coast games, we have a bye after the SF game which is good.  then one that concerns me is the Seattle game.  They usually play the Eagles tough and then the following Sunday Night is the Giants games which will be nationally televised.

by ringordietryin on Apr 15, 2008 3:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Toughest is at the end
I think the toughest part of this schedule is the fact that 3 of the last 4 games are NFC East matchups which are difficult no matter how good the teams happen to be.  Also, that other game of those last 4 is against the Browns who were really good last year and who look like they're only going to get better.

i dont think its a tough schedule
i think its a pretty fair schedule. If were werent the toughest division in the NFL, I think we would be a lock for the playoffs. Its gonna be tough facing our division rivals 6 times a year.

The thing is
Their schedules are just as tough...

Pacman and Newman
I assume they will use their magical powers or maybe the force to keep Romo from turning the ball over?

Also
You talk big for a fan of a team that is coming off the worst choke job in the NFC in the last 30 years.

BIG D????
I like that the Cowboys fans are already talking shit. I didn't see that you guy's got Adam Jones...I hope you do pick him up he will mess up your team even more.

I don't know about the rest of eagles nation, but I really hate Dallas and all their fans. Who cares if you guys have 5 championships. We have 3. If your ID doesn't come from Texas or you grew up in Texas, you are gay and you shouldn't talk shit about the Eagles or our fans that have their own team and traditions.

I can't wait until I graduate college and have a good enough job to fly to Dallas and whip the first Cowboys fan that disrespects me or my wife.

Week 2 it's on fags!!

here we go again
Jason, whats the title of that thread last year that became a warzone... I think Terry ended uo getting kicked out or something?

I forget what was even written to ignite the shit storm

Its a new season!

I believe
It was a post I wrote about my feelings on Dallas fans not born in Texas that ignited that little fire.

Although I think Terry ended up getting banned for stirring things up in a game thread.

Thanksgiving
Be careful what you wish for -- that Thanksgiving game is going to be on NFL Network.  Which means, unless the cable companies and the NFL straighten things out before then, there will be a whole bunch of people who aren't likely to see it.

by BFH on Apr 15, 2008 7:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yep
At least everyone in Philly will see it.  But any Eagles' fan outside the local market is likely screwed (unless you have DirecTV, Dish, or one of the cable providers with NFL Network).

by BFH on Apr 15, 2008 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

All cable providers have it
You just have to pay an extra $5 a month for the "sports tier."

by JasonB on Apr 15, 2008 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hmm..
Jason -- I really don't mean to be nit-picky, but I don't think that's true at all.

Time Warner Cable -- the second largest cable company in the coutnry --doesn't carry the NFL Network at all at this time, even as part of a special sports tier.

I believe the largest, Comcast, does have the NFL Network as part of the subscription "Sports Pack" you mentioned.

by BFH on Apr 16, 2008 8:42 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ok
I have comcast and I have the digital sports tier. I didn't realize Time Warner wouldn't carry it at all.

I'm looking at the Time Warner site and they say this

"The NFL Network is specialty TV programming.

Because the high-priced NFL Network only appeals to a small segment of our customers, we think the best solution is to carry it on a sports tier. Comcast already does this and we think it's a fair remedy for everyone. So fans who want to see the games can pay to watch them and our other customers won't have to share in the cost."

http://www.timewarnercable.com/kansascity/products/NFLNetwork/NFLN.html

Could anyone with Time Warner shed some light on this?

I like what Eskin say's....
they are nothing but cockroaches..... They are the worst of the worst, It's like they root for the bad guys...

I bet they wanted the Soviet Union to win the cold war, Iraq and Bin Laden too...

Do any of you remember when the Eagles missed that FG on MNF maybe 97,98? OMG that was the worst....I wanted to kill I think it was Detmer, does anyone remember who that was....

Man, I hate Dallas so bad. I can't wait until T.O self destructs it's going to be better than the time he was crying about "That's my QB" hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahha

Hutton
it was tommy hutton .

I think this schedule is a little rough ESPECIALLY if we dont hit the ground running with good offensive play.

The Schedule
The one thing to point out, which I think Spuds did today, is that the schedule suggests that the NFL expects us to be a very good team. A few Monday night games, more primetime games, playing on Thanksgiving - let's hope we meet expectations. I think we will.

by ajay on Apr 16, 2008 12:21 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

overall
overall it's a pretty fair schedule, going by last year's record for our opponents...  even the home vs. road is a pretty even split

1    St. Louis Rams            3    13
2    at Dallas Cowboys    13    3
3    Pittsburgh Steelers    10    6
4    at Chicago Bears    7    9
5    Washington Redskins    9    7
6    at San Francisco 49ers    5    11
7    Bye
8    Atlanta Falcons            4    12
9    at Seattle Seahawks    10    6
10    New York Giants            10    6
11    at Cincinnati Bengals    7    9
12    at Baltimore Ravens    5    11
13    Arizona Cardinals    8    8
14    at New York Giants    10    6
15    Cleveland Browns    10    6
16    at Washington Redskins    9    7
17    Dallas Cowboys            13    3

    Total    133    123    0.520
    Home    67    61    0.523
    Road    66    62    0.516

We have our fair share of horrid teams (SF, StL, Atl, Baltimore), some five hundred(ish) teams (Az, Cinci, Chicago, Wash) and then the better teams (Dallas, NY, Cleveland, Pit, Seattle).  Seems decently fair.

Again, our biggest challenge is going to be within our division (which is the way it should be anyway).  Not too worried about Baltimore, SF, StL, Arizona, Atlanta, and Chicago.  Pit is a good team, but at least it's a home game.  All of our divisional games will be tough, but we can win all six of them (although not likely).  The two games that actually scare me the most are @ Seattle and home vs. Cleveland.  Seattle is a tough tough place to play and they will field a good team this year.  Also, I remember saying in the begining of last season that Cleveland could surprise some people, and they have improved their team alot in the offseason.  Plus, yes the Giants and Dallas will have good teams, but we're familiar with them and what they'll try to do.  Cleveland will be a little different story.  I'm definitely not saying the Browns are going to be the best team in the NFL or anything, or that they will go undefeated, but I DO think they will have the chance to win every game they play this year.  I'm just saying that I don't see anyone just rolling over them as they would in the past.

Wow
They sure do expect the Birds to be good this year. Two Monday night games!. I'm very excited that we have the chance to beat Little D in the final Monday night game in Texas Stadium ever. The Thanksgiving game is huge and having the maximum 5 prime time games allowed is sweet.

by Whodie126 on Apr 16, 2008 10:59 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

hmmm
I actually thought you wrote that wrong thinking that the last game was at dallas and on monday, which neither is true... and then i realized that you were talking about week 2. I took a look at the cowboys schedule and I'm surprised they only play one monday night game all year... and the front of their page has a story from spags saying the nfl screwed up by not having washigton play there for the final game.
Its a new season!

Ugh
I think this is a good schedule. Looking forward to the matches.
