The Linc 3.6.08 - Wide Receivers on the brain

One of the weapons McNabb was asking for?
The NFL will be streaming Brett Favre's retirement speech today at noon. You can check it out on NFL.com (NFL.com)

Donovan McNabb had some thoughts on the retirement of Brett Favre over on his blog. (Yardbarker)

Some Harvard guy seems to disagree with the Eagles strategy of signing Asante Samuel, too bad he didn't have any real points. (Iggles Blog)

G Cobb continues to pump put the lion's share of Eagles rumors saying the Eagles are attempting to trade for a "#1" WR. (GCobb.com)

NJ.com's Eagles blog has spawned an uncensored version. No need to hold back on Cowboy fans now I'm guessing. (Eagle Scout Uncensored)

If you're like most people and know nothing about Chris Clemons, you may want to check out this profile. (Inside the Iggles)

The Pats loving national media is outraged that Asante Samuel would leave for... more money! And they're being taken to task for it. Kudos for the No Country reference. (Bounty Bowl)

Howard Esking had a really great interview with Andy Reid yesterday for over an hour. Read a solid recap here. (Bird's Eye View)

As I've said many times, Iggles fans have WRs on the brain. Does anyone else think that if a guy like Larry Fitzgerald came here he'd become on of the biggest stars in the NFL? I guarantee his jersey would be the top seller in the NFL. (The 700 Level)

Speaking of Larry Fitzgerald, here's a quick update on his situation. (All Philadelphia Sports)

Philadelphia's Mayor, Michael Nutter, is also an aspiring rapper. (Huge Tiny Mistake)

Maybe Asante Samuel can get a tattoo of some Mike Nutter rhymes? (Boston.com)

I've noticed a bit of a phenomenon lately. It appears Philly sports bloggers are breeding at alarming rates! Se the cuteness here &
here (Fortress of Pillows/Iggles Blog)

Finally, SI's Dr Z was maybe the lone nat'l media guy to go negative on Favre's retirement saying, "What could have been - Popularity, skills prevented Favre from true greatness" (SI.com)

Eskin Interview
That talk with Eskin was pretty interesting.  It's nice to see Andy being frank about some of the mistakes made last season.

I find it pretty curious how much the Eagles organization as a whole is out doing interviews and television lately.  Just seems a bit different for them -- any way this isn't on purpose?

Zimmerman
I love Dr. Z. Just compare his frank analysis with the absolutely fawning trash spewn about Brett Favre by Peter King on a weekly basis. The media really does gloss over how many opportunities this guy had to be better. I like Brett Favre, but he gets such a free pass.

Could've been greater. . .
blah, blah, blah

Everyone could've been better. We can tear apart every single player in the NFL if we want to. No one in the NFL is perfect at anything... except Bobby Carpenter's beautiful hair.

Maybe slightly OT
I followed the link to Gcobb.com...

Can you really "confirm" a story by posting a second story from the same source on the same topic? Usually you could claim a story as "confirmed" if you got the same info from a different source of equal or better reliability.

Or am I being overly critical here?

Haha
That's a good catch, but at least they're trying!  I think these days anyone who is even attempting to legitimize what they're writing on the 'Net deserves some credit.

Now, if you really want to get out the "red ink" -- I think JasonB posted a link to Yardbarker last night...

The bad thing about Favre retiring
Every word, or every gallon of drool, devoted to Brett Favre by the national media will now be slobbered all over Tony Romo.
When I made the choice that I did I thought I was doing the right thing, not going to Vegas and drinking for two or three days. ---Tony Romo

yes
there will definitely be special attention paid to the "Tony Romo Smile Count" this year.  Also the never ending comparisons to him and Favre's gunslinging mentality...  Tony's a cumslinger...  that's about it.  He just needs to go buy a double-wide with Jessica, get a couple gallons of Jack and pop out like 15 kids...
