Weekend YouTube Fun - Asante can hit too...

As we know firsthand from last year Asante Samuel has a knack for getting picks... but he knows how to lay a hit when has to.

If stats are more your thing... Football Outsider's had Asante ranked among the top 10 in CB success rate last year. By that same metric, Lito Sheppard was among the worst. Obviously that's because he was hurt all year, but that's always been the problem with Lito.

Why would being hurt affect a rate stat?

Why would being hurt affect a rate stat?  Unless you mean he was half fit and thus unable to make plays?

That's it
When he did play he just wasn't 100% and it obviously affected his play.

Is Rod Hood that good?
He's at the top of both the "Best Success Rate" and "Best Yards per Pass" rankings.

Looking solely at those two categories, he should be considered the top CB in the league. Kind of wish we kept him around, and makes me think we really need a solid #3 CB to be a dominant defense.

I hope we keep both Lito and Asante as starters, moving Brown to either a slot CB, or cover safety, depending on the game situation.

Now that Fitz is off the market, I can't see any reason to trade Lito, as long as he behaves.

I've always felt he was.
It's just a shame that the Eagles threw Will James over him his final year.  Rod Hood always performed well when he started for us.  Why was he never considered as competition for Sheldon as the other starter?

I wish we kept him, but I'm glad he's having success in Arizona.

FYI
The Birds knew how good he was, and actually offered Hood more money than the Cardinals did, but they would not guarantee him a starting job (obviously) -- so he took off for Arizona.

in litos defence
these ratings include every game he played injured or not. now uderstanding he probably played injured more then not this year. then look at how we (the Eagles) has had the toughest schedule this year, playing some of the toughest offences. lito was listed as our #1 last year ahnd had to defend the #1 recivers. we played dallas with owens twice, new york with plexico twice and new england with moss. and that is just a quick look at the recivers he went up against.

.563 was the win percentage of our opponents
and i think one defining thing, whether lito was hurt or not, about his play and on-field smarts was the way he flopped when randy moss got the pass in the end-zone. week after week moss had been doing his little "undetectable" pushoff. you can watch CB greer get caught by it the week before on the pats/buffalo tape. the play was set up for moss to push/turn around/catch and lito knew the only way to stop it was to flop at the push. he did it, got the call, pats wound up with a FG.

or maybe he's just weak, moss pushed too hard, and lito got lucky... interesting note though, i believe it was samari rolle the following week in baltimore who tried the same move but without success. samari rolle and lito sheppard are good buds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwA8sL_evIM

Speaking of DBs...
Looks like DeAngelo Hall got traded to the Raiders for a second rounder. I guess that helps to establish Lito's trade value.

True
And good news that the giants didn't get him

but where does it establish it?
hall is obviously the more talented corner. but i'm assuming his mouth puts him at a 2nd instead of a first. does lito's character put him at the same level? or does lito's lesser talent/injury history drive him down to a third/fourth?
