John Clayton: Samuel deal "Close, if not already done"

Update [2008-2-29 15:32:10 by JasonB]: I was guest this afternoon on NFL Gridiron Gab to talk about the Asante Samuel deal and some other Eagles rumors. Head over there and give it a listen!

John Clayton appeared on ESPNNews this afternoon and reported that the deal between Asante Samuel and the Eagles is "close if, not done" and he expects he'll be a member of the Eagles "in a matter of minutes."

He's saying the terms of the contract will be just under $10 million. Possibly $47 million over 5 years.

It depends on how much is guaranteed, but this sounds like a good deal. I was expecting a 5-year $55 million dollar contract.

As long as we keep Sheppard and move Sheldon back with Dawkins, this is great. We're pretty much gonna have the best base, nickel, and dime secondary in the league...

Although, whoever is playing overtop of Samuel needs to keep their head on a swivel. He provides big plays, but also can end up giving them up as well. But after last year, and the pathetic amount of turnovers we got, I'm willing to take the risk.

I realize we've all got our eyes on our "source" boards... anyone actually look at philadelphiaeagles.com? Samuel's face is plastered all over the place... :-) I doubt it's there for shits 'n giggles.

I kept having to click like a speed addict, but I finally snuck it... Trust me, he's everywhere... Front page story about his visit and pending meeting with the media, a link to Asante Samuel pictures (ehhh whatever), videos of him... If this isn't in the bag, it's just cruel...
