The Linc 2.28.08 - Old School

Oh yes, we've gone old school
Some news we knew was coming... Jevon Kearse has been officially cut. Freak out? (PE.com)

Our own Matt Miller has posted his things to like, things not to like from the NFL Scouting Combine. (Mocking the Draft)

Could the Eagles pass on Asante Samuel because he doesn't fit their system? (Iggles Blog)

A breakdown of the Eagles defensive line, which will likely look quite a bit different in the next month or so. (Eagles Eye)

Sure it's another kind of "football," but another chance to hate Dallas and NY is always welcome. Congrats to Philly for scoring a new Major League Soccer team. They already have a pretty big supporters group. (BLOG) (Poor Sports, Sons of Ben)

A look at some guys the Eagles could draft for the offensive skill positions. (Eagle Scout)

A retrospective on The Minister of Defense (Inside the Iggles)

Which off injured WR would be a better fit for the Eagles? Donte Stallworth or Javon Walker? (Birds Eye View)

The Eagles need weapons next year, but are they available in this current market? (700 Level)

Some in depth insight on what the Eagles could do this offseason. Worthwile as we sit here on the eve of free agency. (Fortress of Pillows)

The Eagles had the toughest schedule in the NFL last year. Our opponents had a .563 winning percentage. Thanks to SaxManNate for the link. (ESPN)

Sean Salisbury was fired by ESPN this week. If you miss his analysis, just assume that whatever team just won is the best in the league. (With Leather)

Finally, Megan Fox is somewhat attractive. The understatement of the year. (WWTDD)

Please raise your hand
if you will miss Sean Salisbury... thats what I thought, no one!

Thank you ESPN!!!

and I agree with BEV, I'd rather have stallworth if given the choice between the two. I'd be shocked if the eagles dont feel the same way

Its a new season!

While We're Cleaning House...
I think ESPN.com needs to get rid of Bill Simmons. How many articles do I have to read that are wholly devoted to the Celtics, the Patriots or the Red Sox? Isn't this guy a NATIONAL columnist? His latest attempt (even if completely humorous, which I'm not sure it is) seems  uber-narcissistic: http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3267445

I hate Boston enough already but Simmons makes it worse.

But in ourselves, that we are underlings."

I'm Confused
Since free agency starts at midnight, I thought this might be worth discussing. I understood the Eagles to be around $15-17 million dollars under the cap. Then I read this post on the Inquirer Eagles Forum:

http://forums.philly.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=kr-eagles&msg=70323.1&ctx=1

Is that right? And if so, then do we strike it big tomorrow?

That's correct
After all the LTBE incentives and what not the Eagles are looking at around $30 mil in free cap space.

I'm not sure what "hitting it big" would entail in this thin free agent market... but it certainly seems like something is going to happen.

So...
...do most teams have a lot of extra cap space available in LTBE incentives? Does this mean that a lot of teams who ostensibly have $15 million dollars really have twice that much? Or are the Eagles in a better position than most other clubs?

by ajay on Feb 28, 2008 1:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Not neccisarily
Only if teams built them into guy's contracts last year.

For instance, Reno Mahe had over $4 million in incentives that he didn't reach last year. So that money was basically moved into this year as cap space. There were a couple of other similar examples on the Eagles.

So, some teams have done that. Some haven't.

Last years McNabb Rumor?
i remember hearing last year that there were talks about a straight up trade with the bears. McNabb for Biggs.

now i know this was in no way happening but was there any interest in Briggs last year and if so why haven we heard anything of him and the eagles this year.

is it possible that there might be a deal in the works that is a complete secret. Briggs would definitely be an improvement and he is very young which is what the eagles need.

Doubt it
I think the way the young LBs played last year, the Eagles won't be in the market for a LB.
