Asante Samuel's agent "expects interest" from the Eagles

When he says he expects it, does he mean "I've already talked to them?"

Without being too detailed, Shavers' new touchstone is the six-year, $72 million contract Indianapolis defensive end Dwight Freeney received before last season. That deal included $30 million in guarantees. The deal also was the biggest ever for a defensive player. While Shavers admits that pass rushing defensive ends are more valuable than cornerbacks in the pecking order of NFL position importance, the difference isn't enough to put a comparison out of the realm of discussion.

"I think you start at where Freeney is and work your way down, not from Clements and work up," said Shavers, who expects interest from the Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints and possibly Dallas Cowboys. He said the Patriots remain a serious contender to re-sign Samuel.

Just to sum up the the entire article... Someone is going to pay Asante Samuel a lot of money.

Huh?
I just don't get this.

Why would the Eagles be interested in a Cornerback who won't return punts or kicks and who would be really expensive?

This rumor just flies in the face of everything I thought the Eagles were about.

Among Asante, Lito and Sheldon, who ends up odd man out?  With Lito and Sheldon already under contract for a number of years to come, why bother this year when there are more pressing needs and such good prospects in the draft for Nickel Corner?

I agree...
I just don't see $100M on Asante Samuel as a priority, unless they think they can flip Lito or Sheldon for a premier WR.

And since the FO is the Ministry of Truth, we have no idea what they're thinking.

When I made the choice that I did I thought I was doing the right thing, not going to Vegas and drinking for two or three days. ---Tony Romo

Yeah...
I'm with you, dude.  I don't understand investing the kind of money Samuel will get unless it's a dramatic improvement for your team.

Samuel might be an "A", but it's not like Sheppard is a "D".

After a lot of thought, I really hope this doesn't happen (despite Lito's injury issues), and it could just be the Eagles blowing smoke.

Maybe not even the Eagles
I don't think all these rumors are necessarily coming from them... Probably a lot of agentspeak here.

On ESPN's main page
there is a video about free agency and there were four teams mentioned as "in the hunt" for Samuel. The birds werent one of them...

its hard to ever know who to trust.

Its a new season!

okay?
man do rumors fly. With Lito and Sheldon, i dont see why new networks keep on saying the eagles are contendors for Samuels. I think we need to get Leodis Mckelvin if we really are desperate for a CB, cuz we will get a good KR/PR in the deal. I dont see the eagles wasting time and cash after samuels. Now a safety would be good to look at. Dawkins is still great, but i dont think there is much gas left in the tank.

Reasons for Samuel
1- Allows Birds to move Sheldon Brown to saftey, making them better at two spots... remember getting Runyan and moving Mayberry to Guard?
2- Allows Birds to move Lito for a great wr chip like Larry Fitz or Roy Williams.  Lito may be good, but how good can he be when he's not on the field, or playing hurt?  He's been ineffective or unavailable 2 of the last 3 yrs.
3- It's time to make a splash for Donovan, "go for it" before the Kolb era begins
4- In the pass happy NFL, you need 3 solid corners.  THe irds will need to take a DE in round 1...
