Eagles Rumors, Lito Sheppard/Gibril Wilson

First up, speaking at this year's NFL combine in Indy Eagles GM Tom Heckert offered a pretty strong denial that Lito Sheppard was trade bait. Lito also apparently thought the rumor was "a practical joke"

"Lito is signed, Lito is here and he does not have permission to do anything," said Heckert, refuting a report Monday on ESPN that the team had given Sheppard and his agent, Lamont Smith, permission to seek a trade. "Lito is a member of our team and that's about it. There's nothing left to talk about."

Heckert said he "had no idea" how the rumor got started.

S Gibril Wilson. No new deal for him, either. One interesting note here: The Giants are aware the Eagles will be looking for a safety in free agency. And because Philly plays a similar defensive system to the one Spags brought up here last year, the Giants believe the Eagles will be hot for Wilson. So not only do they want to sign him, they also want to make sure he doesn't land with their division rivals. Can you say leverage for Wilson and his agent?

I don't know much about him other than he called Dawkins before the Super Bowl. Also, he's 26 so that's always a plus for a free agent. Is he any good or worth having around?

I'll admit

Hes never really stood out to me one way or the other... but if the Giants are trying to keep the guy, he has to be decent.

Like you said, he's a good age.

Secondary Help

Asante Samuel is a very happy man today. With the "tagging" of Nnamdi Asomugha and Marcus Trufant, he becomes the only "premier" corner on the market.

The cost of improving the secondary just went up.

We're not getting samuel

We would get chad johnson before we got samuel. Ken Hamlin is another option at safety.

I didn't mean to suggest I wanted to Eagles to look at Samuel or that I even thought they were interested. Just that he's going to be filthy rich.

I don't understand how the rumors could say that we'd trade Lito and then get Samuel and pay him $11 million a year. Wouldn't it make more sense to hypothetically renegotiate Lito's deal?
