The Best Part of the Giants' Run

Does anyone else take great joy from the fact that the Giants have made their run without these two guys?

Seriously, were there two more annoying Giants than Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey? I also kinda got a kick out of Michael Strahan, Eli Manning is mostly just kind of there, and there really aren't any other personalities on the team that ever rubbed me either way. The two real villains and the guys that always seemed to come up big against the Eagles have been Shockey & Tiki. I suppose you could put Burress on  that list, but for whatever reason he's never been the face of the Giants like Shockey and Barber have.

So I take some solace that somewhere Tiki Barber is probably gritting his teeth that the Giants made the superbowl the year after he retires and that Jeremy Shockey will be watching from the sidelines in what may well be his last game as a member of the team.

Go Giants
I'm a die hard eagles fan and I hate the cowboys, I'm so-so about the redskins, and I hate the giants when we're playing them and when we're still in contention.  But now that we are no longer in contention, I want a team (as long as it's not the cowboys) out of the "mediocre" NFC East to go to the superbowl and win.  What's more, i want an NFC Team to pull down the superbowl this year when ESPN and everyone else on sportcenter this year has made it all too clear that they think the NFC has been so-so at best with the Favre and Romo being the only exceptions.  Well I'll tell you what, this year there was no one in the NFC East with a losing record and on top of that two of those teams ended up in the playoffs...again.  I want the Giants to bring the Lombardi back to this side of the fence...where the cool kids hang out.

p.s. I want strahan and umenyiora to knock that stupid smirk off Brady's face.

Brandon Jacobs
He's just a lowdown dirty ass of a player and the sort of guy who makes it tough to like this team.

Don't you remember his cheapshot and fight against Akers in 2006?

this is true...
Ok so you got me there, and I will admit that they're not my second favorite team in the league, but we're choosing the lesser of two evils here, and I have to choose the NFC team over the Pats.

Go Pats!
Boston fans are already so smug, will we even notice a difference if the Pats win (another) Superbowl? It just maintains the status quo.

The Giants win, and we've got every fan of our division rivals shoving it in our face every minute of every day that the Eagles haven't won a superbowl.

Plus, I really decided while watching the Giants/Cowboys game (during which I wholeheartedly rooted for the Giants) that I thought both teams seemed like bunches of assholes.

When I made the choice that I did I thought I was doing the right thing, not going to Vegas and drinking for two or three days. ---Tony Romo

Meh.
We get it shoved in our face every year that we haven't won a superbowl, that's just the way it is.  And I admit, the fact that we haven't one a superbowl and they'd have a trophy gives me indigestion, but I'm sick of the Pat's winning this damn contest just about every year.

I know that about 90% of other fans think that I'm crazy to want the Giants to win this but what can I say, I hate the Pats more than them even though the Giants are our division rivals.  Still, that doesn't make me any less of an eagles fan.

Makes sense
If the Pats win it will just be another ring for them... They may be smug, but at least we don't really have to be subjected to it twice a year. I'd rather they add #4 than suffer hearing Giants fans after they win...

Don't want the Giants to win
I agree with BrianS. The Giants are one of our hated rivals. You can't root for them. It's just wrong. It sucks to see the Patriots win again, but at least they're in a different division and conference. I mean, come on, rooting for a division rival?! Wtf people?

Go, gulp Patriots
"If the Pats win it will just be another ring for them... They may be smug, but at least we don't really have to be subjected to it twice a year. I'd rather they add #4 than suffer hearing Giants fans after they win..."

I like they way you said that. It would suck if the Giants won.

Because Giants fans are assholes and idiots. I don't need to hear it from all these fake ass Giant fans.

When the Giants played Baltimore they all came out. Then the lost and havn't done too well. They all vanished and I like when they are quiet.

Plus It's rare for me too see such good coahing. I like Billacheats coaching style. Do whatever it takes. Take what they give you.

Becuase of History...
and because the other choice includes Eli wearing a SB ring I'm definitly rooting for the pats.

In fact I hope its a friggin blowout and Eli throws like 5 picks. The Giants are the worst team to be in SB in years! Basically the entire NFC collapsed in the playoffs.

on the other hand, even if you hate NE (and I do)... going undefeated is insane. You have to respect that.

79 Rams
The Giants are the worst team in the Super Bowl since the 1979 Rams.  They easily beat out the other contenders like the 2003 Panthers, 1985 Patriots and 1980 Raiders.

One can only hope we are about to see an epic Super Bowl blowout like the 2002 Bucs, 2000 Ravens, 1994 49ers, 1993 Cowboys, 1989 49ers, and 1985 Bears threw down.  I can't wait to see Eli meltdown and throw 4 picks and Coughlin explode on the sideline.  Its unfortunate that Brady and the Patriots have to be the beneficiaries of it, but so be it.

Super Bowl runner up curse
got to go with the Pats, if the Giants lose in the big one the runner-up Curse will take hold and then they will finish 4 and 12 maybe 6 and 10 next season. I'd love to see the Pats blow it in the big one and if the Giants win another it won't be two bad with the smug factor so i was thinking of kinda' rooting for the Giants until i remembered the curse. Gotta think of next season for the Birds!

Have to pick the Giants
I just cannot stand people from Boston.  If they undefeated, especially after cheating, I don't think I'll be able to take it.  I don't see how they're allowed to be called undefeated, they cheated.  If Barry Bonds gets an asterik, then the Patriots should too.

I'm living in Boston
so I don't know what the fuck I want.  On the one hand I hate the giants with a passion, on the other my NE friends are gonna rub this shit in my face every day next year.  I'm seriously leaning towards the giants, especially because I'm tired of hearing about the superiority of the AFC.  Nothing like beating the best team the AFC has seen in ages to shut those people up.

i think wilbon from PTI put it best when he said..
he would rather stand completely naked in the freezing temperatures at lambeau field than cheer for either one of these teams.

Sounds good to me.
I'll join you if I can do it with the Packer Girls.  California girls get all the press because of the warm weather, but as anyone who has lived in Wisconsin can tell you (and I did for 6 years), they have the perfect honeys up there.

I don't know why people find it so hard to grasp..
It seems like people are driven by some compulsion to "root" for a team in the superbowl. Last time I checked, neither of the two teams in the bowl are the Eagles, so what the hell is the confusion about. Both teams (and their respective fans) are, in one way or another, rivals of the Eagles and are each despicable in their own special ways. Thus, I hope both teams lose and I look forward to another super fun superbowl of watching commercials and hanging out with my EAGLES FANS friends who would never even consider rooting for a division rival NOR a team as arrogant and haughty as the unbeaten Patriots.

No one is forcing you to root for anyone. Take the time you would spend trying to make the impossible decision of trying to pick between these two teams and think about what you are going to eat on superbowl sunday. If you NEED to root for a team against which you have rooted in the same season to make the superbowl fun for you, then you need to get better friends.

Sorry for the rant.

I like underdogs...
and no matter how we slice it, as eagles fans we're going to jawed at next year by everyone else in our division.  Since we didn't make the playoffs, we're going to get made fun of for NOT making the playoffs. If we did make the playoffs and did not advance to the NFC title game, we'd get made fun of for that.  If we advanced to the superbowl, again, and didn't win it, we'd get made fun of for that.  I don't believe that the giants NOT winning this game will make them any less obnoxious next year.  Moreover, they'd be just as obnoxious if they did win.  So lighten up, to me it's just another game on another sunday and I have to "silly" habit of rooting for a given team on a given sunday even when the eagles are not playing in the game.

[If you NEED to root for a team against which you have rooted in the same season to make the superbowl fun for you, then you need to get better friends.]

See here in the NFL we do this thing called betting, you may have heard of it, it's where you - get this - choose a team to win, but not the other team at the same time, just one team.  If you chose both teams then you'd just be foolish since you're only supposed to choose one.  But get this, it makes a game that's NOT interesting because it doesn't have your team (my team, the Eagles (E...A...G...L...E...S...EAGLES!)) MORE interesting because now there's money (or favors) riding on it!  And you can do it with your friends, real friends, not just stuffed animals and homeless people that I convince to come over with promises of Thunderbird and funyuns.

yes, I'm picking the giants to win the game because the payoff is bigger if they win (I hate playing a spread) and the "PURSUIT OF PERFECTION" would be smashed with a record of 18-1.  That's precious to me.

Not sorry for the rant.

That's fine
Frankly, I could care less about NFC East teams making the playoffs. That's a lot less to deal with than a superbowl ring. Making the playoffs the year before becomes irrelevant when the new season starts. A ring doesn't become irrelevant.

Plus, I'm sure according to Rodney Harrison the Pats will be the underdogs!

by JasonB on Jan 23, 2008 10:46 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

right
picking a team for betting purposes and rooting for a team for the hell of it are two different things. I was talking about the latter.

Who cares as long as the Giants lose

Agian, I can't say it any better. The Eagles have had some playoff success in recent years. I still hear that we have no superbowl rings. So playoff wins and superbowl apperances don't mean shit compared to a superbowl ring.
