BGN chats with Cris Collinsworth

Sunday Night Blogger
This week I spoke with Chris Collinsworth for a show on NBCSports.com called "Sunday Night Blogger."

We chat about last week's huge win and preview the upcoming Sunday night clash with the Giants.

Some highlights of what we talked about:

I said I thought Kearse has looked like a shell of his former self and doesn't look like he's fully back from his knee injury last year. Collinsworth said from watching the game film that Kearse was still getting chipped and double teamed on almost every play. So while he may not be putting up the numbers just yet, opposing coaches are still clearly worried about him.

He talks about the "education in the passing game" that Kevin Curtis got from Mike Martz when he was in St Louis. He said with so many teams playing zone these days, that it's not about just beating a guy deep most of the time. It's about finding holes in the zone, which is exactly what Curtis was doing in the Lion's game.

He called Brian Westbrook "one of the great football players in this leauge" and seemed pretty baffled about how Westbrook has only made one pro bowl and was only there because of an injury to a starter.

All in all I had alot of fun and I think the show ended up as a pretty interesting listen/watch. Huge kudos to NBC for supporting and promoting blogs as a legit part of the sports media world. Let me know what you guys think.

Check out the show right here on NBCSports.com

Westbrook Pro-Bowls
Westbrook was jobbed last year in favor of the less impressive Tiki Barber.  In 2005 he was injured and missed the last 4 games.  In 2004 he was in as an alternate.  In 2003 his only chance was as a punt returner, and he missed on that.

a lot
A lot is two words.  Your blog is big enough to be talking to Collinsworth the least you could do is spell a 1st grade level word correctly.

Jealousy is never pretty
Oh, and not for nothing, "a lot" is two words. Thanks for playing. Run along now.

Collinsworth is the best analyst out there.
And jhavrk8... are you being serious? You really chose to nitpick on a minor typo? Let me correct your grammar.

"A lot is two words." Correct, off to a great start.

"Your blog is big enough to be talking to Collinsworth the least you could do is spell a 1st grade level word correctly." This is where you trail off into oblivion. Firstly, this sentence is way too wordy. Forgivable sin. Nevertheless, proper grammar for this would be:
"If your blog is big enough to talk to Chris Collinsworth, you should go out of your way to make sure that you spell correctly."

Alternatively,
"Your blog is big enough to talk to Chris Collinsworth. You should be spelling a first grade word correctly."

Third option,
"I'm a big douche bag, and I'll go be quiet now."

Overall, jhavrk8, your sentence suffers from an too many -ing words, lack of a single comma, parallel sentence issues, lack of connecting verbs, lack of conjunctions, and an overdose of asshole.

Go tape videotape our English classes. Maybe you'll learn something.

hmm
Now wasn't that just an amazing display of superior command of the English language.  And the keyboard too, you own that thing.  Holy crap that was great.  Wow.

And if you'd stop calling me an asshole for three seconds and consider my point you MIGHT realize that it's not a typo.  He spells it "alot" every time he uses the word.  Which happens to be a lot.  Maybe he'd rather not be misspelling simple words, especially considering his blog is now featured on NBC.com.  But you also might get really angry and red in the face and call me names again.  That's a much more normal reaction right?

And for the record, I think he's a great writer/blogger and I check BGN daily.

I called you an asshole just once
I called you a douche bag in addition to that. I think both are justified, given the ridiculousness of your nitpick. And thank you for your compliments -- I accept.

My basic point is that if you're going to nitpick something as dumb as using "a lot" instead of "alot," you may as well go out of your way to make sure that your own grammar is infallible, since such an error as the one you pointed out is so minor and not worth commenting on. Your grammar in your commentary on his grammar was far worse than anything he ever typed. I hope you see how that makes you seem like an asshole (not the "mean person" sense, but rather in the "talking out of his ass" sense), and basically hypocritical, all at once.

BG only used the phrase "a lot" once in this entire diary. If it was repeated in this diary, fine. I just can't believe you decided to go grammar police over such a trivial thing, especially when the basic story is pretty damn exciting and worth commenting on.

As entertaining (not)
as your little rant-fest is, the proper thing to do would have been to email BG off-list with your concerns and leave the blog area for on-subject posts.

The NBC video is coming up as not available on the website.

Sweet, man!
Very cool exposure for this site and for sports blogs in general. You and Chris both came off very well.
