How's this for a throwback?

I've made no secret of the fact that I'm not a huge fan of the "throwback" uniforms the Eagles will don this Sunday. First, they don't even really look like the original Frankford Yellow Jackets jersey that they're trying to imitate. The new jersey has brighter, shinier colors, and they're short sleeved. I get why that is, but it may have been fun to see them go all out with the rubgy style long sleeve shirts.

As a bit of history it should be noted that the Frankford Yellow Jackets didn't evolve into the Eagles. The Yellow Jackets went bankrupt and folded in 1931. Neither the Eagles nor the NFL consider them the same franchise. The Philadelphia Eagles were a brand new franchise awarded to Bert Bell over a year after the collapse of the Yellow Jackets. Almost no players from the Yellow Jackets ended up on the new Eagles. The Eagles, did however carry over the Yellow Jackets jersey and colors in their inaugural season.

Either way, it seems that very few Eagle fans like these things, and around the country opposing fans are having a laugh at our expense. So I ask, how great would it have been to see the team suit up in the old kelly green? The colors that identified this franchise through the vast majority of its existence? There would have been unanimous support from the fans, I mean who wouldn't want to see the team as they looked back in the days of Reggie, Seth, Clyde, Jerome, Buddy, & Randall? That was an iconic team with larger than life players. Especially now, given that we could use some of that era's heart and tenacity on Sunday, how cool would it have been?

Let's hope one day they do decide to bring back the kelly green, and hopefully that day will come before the 100th anniversary season...

Is it me or is there just something uplifting about looking at this picture?

Throwbacks..
I bought a t-shirt and hat in the blue and yellow, I'm not sure if I'll spring for a jersey or not.

While I'm not sure I actually like the jerseys themselves, I think it's neat that they're wearing (an approximation of) the 1933 uniforms.

I'm definitely glad those aren't the regular uniforms, though!

I DO like the kelly green, and I would love to see them use that as an alternate instead of the black uniforms (Like I've said before -- I like the black jerseys as a novelty for the fans, but I don't like when the team wears it).  I still think I like the current uniforms best as the regular ones, though.

Here's a page
with all sorts of old pics:  http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nfl/philly/eaglespics.html

I was always partial to the Bergey-era unis, with numbers on the top of the shoulder pads and the stripes on the sleeves, or the Bob Brown era.  The white shirts in the Byers pic look pretty good.  If they really want to look throw-back, maybe they should go with the long-sleeve Van Buren shirts.

They should be even more authentic
And just play the throwback game at Franklin Field.

And that would have been cool...wear a uniform from one of their championship years.

Those 70s ones
really look like the Jets.

my favorite uniforms
were the late 80's early 90's era unis... especially the kelly green jersey's, silver pants, white knee socks with green stripes... and most of all those black shoes.

Can you imagine what the defense woulda looked like paired with our offense from 2002-2004.

It woulda looked like 3 rings

Agreed
The marketing team f-ed up big on this one.
They should have had a poll.
I would have voted for the Kelly Green Reggie Era.
I love the logo from that era also.

Only shmucks are buying that crap its not authentic, its ugly
and its not even the eagles.

It Could Be Worse...
We could have canary yellow uniforms like the Redskins wore today - or 'gold' as they try to tell us.  Or, we could just devote an entire season to 'throw-up' uniforms like the NFL did in 1994.

I agree with 700 Level, the black shoes were the best finishing touch on the kelly green unis.

how'd we get green?
I know that the blue & yellow came from the Philadelphia city flag (the city's official colors). But does anyone know how GREEN was chosen as the new colors? Was it just a random choice or is there a reason behind it?
