Eagles v Jets Preseason game #4
Lincoln Financial Field | Philadelphia, PA
Thursday August 30th, 7:30P
TV: 6ABC Radio: 94.1 WYSP/Sirius channel 130
The Eagles & Jets always seem to finish up preseason with a short trip on the turnpike to face each other. This one shouldn't be terribly interesting, but I think I'll watch the first half at least anyway. This is your open thread!
For a Jets perspective check out our sister site NY Landing Strip.
On a side note did anyone catch that Phils game today? Wow! I think for once the Phils might keep our attention even with Eagles season starting! Go Phils!

This is really worrying me

Avant
I also like what I see from Hunt. He has some growing to do, but he's decisive and quicker than advertised. That said, he runs just as hard as advertised.
Feeley holds onto the ball waaaay too long.

I had a shuddering thought

Why is Rocca playing?

Dirk is punting
THat last miss was hard to figure out. The snap was bad for sure, Rocca got the hold down but there was no replay. I couldn't really see if the hold was any good.

Has Johnson been punting well?

If Rocca does win out...

The LBs
Cogong is going to be really bad. He has trouble making the simplest reads, such as whether the play is a run or a pass. He's not much of a blitzer. And his slowness to take proper steps makes him easy to block. He has a long way to go IMO.
Gaither should be OK, but he too has trouble reading pass plays. It's amazing that players at this level can't read offensive linemen going into pass protection.
Spikes isn't that impressive. I will be surprised if he's an impact player. He's not much in pass coverage either.
Hopefully, all three were just getting kinks out during the preseason. I don't have a lot of faith in the Eagles run defense being any better.
And a side note, Thomas Tapeh looked like shit as a lead blocker and in pass protection.

Roster
I have a feeling Rocca is not going to make it.
Jason Davis looks better than Tapeh at Fullback. He can actually pick up yards on passes and run the ball a bit on the inside handoff. We already knwo what Tapeh can (or rather can't) do.
Akeem Jordan may stay as the 6th or 7th Linebacker, he's always around the ball.
Marques Murrell was very impressive, as was Abiamiri. Are the Eagles keeping Kearse as a starter one year too long?
I wouldn't be surprised to see Jeremy Clark make the team at D Tackle and Ian Scott get cut.
Bloom looks like crap with his injured toe. It would be a crime to cut Greg Lewis in favor of Bloom. Its not like Bloom won't be there on the street in a few weeks if you want to go back to him. Honestly, they ought to consider picking up Stuckey from the Jets if he gets cut.
I saw nothing special for Paschal vs. Gaddis or Graham vs. Barksdale. Barksdale is supposed to be fast, can he return kicks and punts?
Ilaoa made a nice effort on several plays on that last drive. Can he return kicks?

Iaoa
I thought Bloom had one good kick return after the Jet's first FG.
Agreed on Abiamiri. Frankly, it would not surprise me at the least to see Juqua Thomas getting as many snaps as Kearse. I think Abiamiri is going to get in there as well. I'm not sure by mid season whether Kearse will even play 50% of the snaps.
I wonder whether they won't PUP list Scott?
I agree on Dorenbos, but I think it's too late to change. We can't start the season now with a new snapper. These guys should have been working on snapping in games already. I'd look everyone on cut day to see if there's a professional snapper cut loose. Either that or go knocking on Bartrum's door and begging him to come back.

Kolb
Kolb probably has the next 3-4 weeks to be the 2nd stringer and get in the tail end of some real games.

Kolb
Not to rehash all the draft threads, but I'm a lot less upset about this pick than I was at the time. I really wanted them to take someone that would be able to help them this year, but I think if McNabb should continue to battle injury, the franchise is in good hands. And if Donovan stays healthy and continues to play at a hight level (and can agree to a contract extension) I think Kolb will have great trade value.
I didn't see all the game, but from what I saw, I thought Abiamiri and Hunt played well too. Merrill & Mike raved about Stewart Bradley as I was driving home. Good draft, guys.
How much did Gaither and Gocong play? How'd they look?

Barksdale
At least Kolb looks like the real deal
Also how about Abirimiri? Also looks like the real deal

at DE
If the Birds cut Marques Murrell, I bet he ends up on someone else's roster, rather than their practice squad. A game like he had will get noticed.
