Eagles v Steelers - Preseason game 3 open thread

Heinz Field | Pittsburgh, PA
Sunday August 26th, 8:00P
TV: 10NBC Radio: 94.1 WYSP

It's a fair assumption that the Eagles will almost always play the Jets, Ravens, & Steelers in the preseason. This is your open thread!

As always in the preseason, no injuries and go first team.

For a Steelers perspective check out our sister site Behind The Steel Curtain.

Interesting play
Gocong goes right at the tackle like a DE and Cole drops back in coverage to grab the INT

Great punt from Sav
put it right on the 5. Then it was called back, the Eagles given a 5 yard penalty. Then Sav puts it on about the 8.

Looks like Westbrook has the night off
He was in for the first series, but it's been all Buckhalter since then.

Surprised
The Eagles got inside the 5 and went to the air. Last week they had success pounding Tony Hunt. I'm surprised they didn't stick with that.

Considine
did NOT look good on that play.  He bounced right off him and right into the way of Dawkins.

Yeah...
So much for the new bulked up Considine...

Fumble!
Steelers run up the gut, Spikes & Gaither stand them up and force a fumble. Mikell recovers.

Great play from Spikes, it looked like it was him who knocked the ball loose.

Linebackers making plays! In Eagles jerseys!

I agree
That was a great play.  If I'm not mistaken, that was the first goal line situation of the pre-season for our D.  It was just a couple plays and it's only August, but that was an enormous improvement from the playoff game in NO last year.

How many
drops does Reggie Brown plan on having tonight?  I'd like to know so I could stop getting frustrated after every play in which he is thrown to.

Concerned
Very unimpressed by either side of the ball.

especially defense
I thought the offense moved the ball reasonably well with McNabb in, but the defense just fell apart in the second quarter.

Yeah
Can't stop a screen to save their lives.

Hard to evaluate the O without Westbrook, which I understand why he's not playing (why bother to play him 1 play at all?), but my only real complaint -- ok also the drops suck -- but I'd rather have gotten the first unit another series or two of practice against a tough D than get Kolb (our third stringer)  work with the first team.  Worry about winning this year's superbowl, Andy.

The freakin screen
That was driving me crazy. Anything to a back was going for 20 yards. I thought we were supposed to have faster linebackers for just that!

wow...
I should now by now not to even care about the preseason, but we look horrendous!

Yeah...
Yeah, defense looks TERRIBLE.

LBs look horrible
Passes to running backs, either a screen or a flair pass, are the responsibility of the linebackers. And the Steelers gained almost all their passing yards going to their running backs. On the big screen to Parker, Spikes basically ran into an o-lineman and got blocked out of the play.

If you look at the Eagles LBs, they are starting a first-year rookie (Gocong) who didn't play linebacker in college, a second-year player (Gaither) in the middle who played the outside last year and an aging veteran (Spikes) who is a new system and hasn't looked all that impressive.

I get wanting a younger/quicker mlb, but still keep him on the team. If Gaither goes down, who is the MLB? Spikes? Bradley?

But to me an even bigger concern is that the Eagles once again can't generate a pass rush unless they blitz. The front-four did zero on their own. And does Kearse slip on every other play? If you have to blitz to get any pressure, a good QB will burn you with hot routes and Big Ben did that several times tonight.

And yes Consedine is sort of embarrassing as a "strong safety".

We'll see what happens in two weeks.

Relax
It's just preseason

The only worry I have on D is Considine. Not physical at all.

Odd to see no Feeley tonight
Makes me wonder whether he'll play alot this thursday?

There you go Kolb
Your first TD drive. 7/8 for about 70 yards and a TD... Not bad at all
