The greatest Eagles beat down of all time

ESPN's page 2 had an interesting article on The greatest beatdowns in history and it got me thinking. What are the greatest beatdowns in Eagles history?

This is something I need everyone's help on. There should probably be some criteria though. The great beatdowns should probably have some significance. A playoff game, a game against Dallas or NY... Not just your average regular season game, although if you can think one that's just outrageous let me know.

My entry is going to be the December 30th, 1995 wildcard playoff against the Detroit Lions. The final score was 58-37. The game remains the highest scoring game in playoff history. The Eagles defense racked up 6 interceptions(2 for TDs), and the team scored 31 points in the second quarter alone. Midway through the third quarter the Eagles lead 51-7! The Lions added a few late TDs to make it look more respectable, but it was still one of the worst beatings in league history.

What are your best Eagles beat downs? I'll keep updating this post with your suggestions and next I'll throw up a poll with the nominations.

This wasnt a playoff game or division game but...
The beatdown that stands out in my mind at the moment was the game against Green Bay in 2004. The final score of the game was 47-17, but I honestly think the eagles could have scored 75 points or more.

Heres a quick stat rundown:

-542 yards of total offense
-McNabb set franchise record with 464 passing yeards and five touchdowns (which wre all in the first half!)
-Westbrook 3 tds in the first half.

I picked this game because I cannot remember the eagles ever dominating a game start to finish this way.

I have a video clip from this game that I'll try to post. Basically a Packer (henderson) scores a td late in the game and emphatically spiked the ball in the endzone, only to have Quentin Mickell tap him on the shoulder and point to the scoreboard! Classic!

MNF vs. Redskins, Sept 16 2002
The Redskins are the trendy thing in the NFC East with new head coach Steve Spurrier and coming off a big win over Tennessee.

It didn't last.

The Pickle Juice Game
Opening Week 2000, @ Dallas
Wasn't this one fun?

Since that onside kick, the Eagles are 11-3 vs Dallas.

Here's what our former MLB had to say about it:

" We were on our way up and they were on their way down. I don't think they knew it at the time and neither did we but going in there was all this talk about the Eagles and how we were going to die in the heat. Fortunately we got the onside kick and the offense went down the field and scored on them. We held them three-and-out and we just kept putting their defense back on the field and we ended up blowing them out."

a couple
Well, none of these had playoff implications directly, but, in addition to the good ones mentioned above, these are the first that came to mind, google-checked for accuracy:

1) The Eagles sack Aikman 11 times and win 24-0 in 1991.

2) The Eagles beat the Cardinals 52-10 and 38-0 in the same season (alas, the otherwise forgettable 1981 disappointment).

3) The first three games of the 1980 season:
Eagles 27, Broncos 6
Eagles 42, Vikings 7
Eagles 35, Giants 3
After one of these games (I think the Vikings game) a couple of the lineman, a bit prematurely, hoisted Vermeil up on their shoulders.

4) And a game I was at, Eagles 40, 49ers 8 at Candlestick, in Charlie Garner's coming out party, against the future Super Bowl champs, in an otherwise horribly disappointing season.

It's too bad in retrospect that the Lions scored those last touchdowns to make it look closer in that 58-37 game, which was, undoubtedly, the highlight of the Ray Rhodes era.

Another from 2004
Eagles 49, Dallas 21.

Eagles hung more points on Dallas than anyone had ever done before, including 28 in one quarter.  Plus a beat-down has to be at least 40+ to something pretty low.

Some other fun ones not yet mentioned:

2005 Eagles 42, 49ers 3.  I believe the Eagles scored on every possession.

1988 Eagles 41, Bucs 14.  Coming out party of the Buddy Ryan/Cunningham era.

2002 Eagles 44, Dallas 13.
2000 Eagles 40, Dallas 18.
Hanging 40-burgers on Dallas is just so nice.
