Eagles v Ravens Open Thread

Eagles @ Ravens, preseason game #1

M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore MD
Monday August 13th, 7:00P
TV: 6ABC Radio: 94.1 WYSP
Weather: 91° with 13 mph westerly winds

Keep your eyes on the rookies and the second year guys. Pay special attention to that punter battle and of course the debut of Kevin Kolb! Is the heir apparent? Does his path to Canton start right now? LOL, we'll see... Here's to no injuries and some good individual showings! Post all your thoughts or reactions right here.

Go Birds! Not that I really care whether they win or not...

Granted, I know it doesn't mean anything at all, but this has not been impressive at all so far.  (7-0 Ravens, defense looked awful).

Gocong
I thought he did a nice job on that first play. He got to McNair a step late but he was able to put a hit on the QB.

Will James got a little faked out.

Considine is doing his job though

Dirk Johnson
Great first punt there. That's the kind of kicks you need to make when you're in a fight for his job.

2nd punt
Wasn't very good though. 41 yards. Those are Dirk's limitations, he just doesn't have that impressive booming punt in him.

3rd punt
a 38 yarder...

Avant
Anyone notice that Avant has jumped up to #3 on the WR depth chart. He was playing with the first team offense, not Baskett.

Akers miss
Bad snap. Looks like Dirk did a decent job trying to  save it, but Dorenbos just snapped it way to low.

This is an issue. Akers is working with a snapper and punter. That's the reason for preseason though, to work that stuff out.

Vintage BWest
Also some good stuff from Bunkley. A tackle for a loss and a batted ball.

Bloom
I think he's done a reasonably good job so far. He's been finding seams when they're there and he did a nice job making the first guy miss on a punt return.

Ike Reese

Holcomb just doesn't look very good
I'm not sure if receivers just aren't getting open, but he is really holding onto the ball a long time and not pulling the trigger. It's pressure comes and  he just gives up.

Brent Celek
Just rumbling for a big gain! He really reminds me of a quicker Chad Lewis out there.

Bloom
i'm with you on Bloom.  He's looked great.  Looks like a veteran out there going after the ball, not letting anything drop.

27 yarder and a 17 yarder thus far.

nice to have the 'big break' potential again... that's one thing Mahe didn't give us.

Rashad Barksdale
Has done some good things. Broke up a pass on the end zone, has made some nice hits supporting the run. Definitely a couple encouraging little things from him.

Reese
I "expect big things" from Ike...

I did get a kick out of him saying that the Eagles don't see the 3-4 defense because no one in the NFC plays it.

Obviously Dallas has for several years now...

Another word about Ike and Co.
In the beginning of the game they mentioned something about Gocong struggling last year.   Do these guys even watch football? I don't think they know Gocong didn't play.

Kolb
When he's had time, which is not often, he looked poised and he throws a nice ball. He's getting pressured like crazy though.

Ouch!
He looks to be in terrible pain. Poor guy, this probably costs him his last chance to turn some heads in this organization.

Moats
"this probably costs him his last chance to turn some heads in this organization"

Not really.  If he's lucky, he'll go on IR and get another chance next year.

65 yards!?!
From the endzone to the 30?  Nice punt by Rocca

HUGE punt from Rocca
56 yards and he was under a rush.

A penalty brought that one back...

On the second try he boots it 65 yards!

Plus he was rocked with a hit on the return... he seemed to be laughing about it on the sideline. Remember, this dude used to play without pads.

Get well soon, 5, 20, and 26.
Every unit has been dominated by its Ravens counterpart.  Merrill can remind me that it's preseason all night, but it's preseason for the Ravens, too.

Celek and Bloom look good, Abiamiri and Bradley look like they can play about.

Oh yeah, and Rocca.  And that hit on him wasn't a penalty?

That's about it.
