Donovin Darius anyone?

Could the veteran presence help?
The strong safety was released by the Jags today. He'll be 32 going into this season and currently rehabbing a broken leg he suffered in a November game against the Giants last year. When the Jags selected Reggie Nelson in this year's draft as well as a safety later, Darius became "surplus to requirements."

Darius was born in Camden, NJ and actually grew up an Eagles fan. The guy has been a pro bowl player through his career and one of great character guys in the NFL. He was named, along with Takeo Spikes and former Eagles Troy Vincent & James Thrash, to Commissioner Roger Goodell's six-man committee of players to advise him and act as a liaison between him and the players.

He's got ideal size at 6-1, 225. Anyone think the Eagles might be interested? Currently Sean Considine is the starter with little challenging him for the role. Quintin Mikell really plays both safety positions and CJ Gaddis is rookie that's learning a new position. Considine showed some good and bad last year, but I don't think anyone is going to mistake him for a pro bowl safety though. At his age maybe Darius is past that level as well, but if he's healthy he'd bring a solid veteran presence to what is right now a question mark on the Eagles defense. Plus, you'd have to think Darius could be had on a fairly inexpensive one year deal.

I'd like to see the Eagles at least bring him in for a look.

Could be a lot of interest
around the league. I'd think the Eagles would be one of the teams looking to bring him in. If he can still play starter-quality football... SS is the one position with the least depth in the secondary.

great guy, great player
i grew up an eagles fan, but since i'm in jax, i've been a fan of the jaguars also.  darius is an amazing player, and an amazing guy.  i was shocked that he was cut, and i'm very sad to see him go.  the eagles would be very smart to at least see what he can do.

Nasty
Darius is know as a hard hitter. With him ad Dawkins roaming the field watch for some huge hits (ala reggie bush getting lit up in the playoffs).

3 man threat
Dawkins, Brown, and Darius would make for a tough secondary to move around against.

I still don't believe
it was brown who creamed bush.  Maybe he was channeling the late great Andre Watters.
