SBN Mock Draft Round 1 done!

Round one of the the 2007 SBN mock draft over at Field Gulls. is finished. We are still aiming for a 3 round affair and are well into the second round now. If all goes well, I should be on target to make the 2nd Eagles pick sometime early next week. As you know I took a corner in round one, mostly because I thought he was the best player left on the board and it was legit position of need. In the second round I'll be looking to take the best player available that's a RB, LB, TE, or Safety... The snazzy table is courtesy of our new Bills blog, Buffalo Rumblings.

IF...
if we didn't have Spikes, would you have chosen Lawrence Timmons?

I don't think so
Simply because we need an impact at linebacker and Timmons won't be that. I'm not saying he can't be a good player at some point, but after starting only one year in college it would be a stretch to think he could start right away in the NFL.

Also, I would not have picked him if Houston was still on the board. I probably also would have picked Griffin or Merriweather over him.

there's a reason Lawrence
left early and its because he's ready. He's got the size 6'3 230 and he's got the smarts. He may have started only one season, but he got plenty of playing time backing up Ernie Sims. Lawrence was a monster while playing for FSU, its a shame he didnt stay one more season, he would have been a Top 10 pick easily barring injuries ....

his most attractive quality is his knack for finding the ball and putting are hard hit to it. Whoever drafts him wont be disappointed

the same goes for LB Buster Davis, these guys have ridiculous motors

I like Timmons
and I think if a team like the Bears got him where he can spent a good year learning he'll flourish. I just think he's the classic case of a guy that would have a tough time adjusting if he was thrust into a starting spot from day one.

Houston, Impact or Overrated ?
On si.com, Chris Houston is simultaneously both overrated on Stewart Mandel's overrated/underrated list, and then one of 5 on Don Bank's list of immediate impact draft projects. So, it settled,
then...C.Houton's a 'stone cold lock' ... or not.

What worries people
Is that his combine workout was so good. They see he had one of the fastest 40 times and his bench press was like a linemans and they worry he is just a workout warrior.

However, his performance on the field is what makes me think that's not true. It's pretty simple, against the best WRs in this draft he stepped up and shut them down this year. Even without his phenominal combine workout, I think he'd still be a #1 pick thanks to what he did this year on the field.
