Eagles make offer to Stallworth; show interest in Curtis?

Reuben Frank

On the day that it was reported that Donte Stallworth is in the NFL's substance abuse program, the Eagles reportedly have made Stallworth a formal contract offer.

ESPN.com reported late last night that the Eagles yesterday offered Stallworth a contract to return to the club in 2007, but it did not provide any details about the size or length of the proposed deal. Stallworth caught 38 passes for 725 yards and five touchdowns during an injury-plagued 2006 season, his only year with the Eagles.

Stallworth, an unrestricted free agent, has visits scheduled with the Patriots and Titans, but the Eagles have apparently gotten into the mix as well for the five-year veteran.

So he's going to take this offer to New England, Tennessee, and Miami this week and see if they will beat it. The Patriots are bringing in Stallworth despite just trading a 2nd round pick for Miami WR Wes Welker and rumors that they could be close to trading for Randy Moss. They also drafted WR Chad Jackson with their first round pick last year.

Miami is reportedly unlikely to offer the kind of upfront money that Drew Rosenhaus is looking for.

The Detroit free press has reported that Rams free agent WR Kevin Curtis who seemed close to a deal with the Lions and just fired his agent after not getting a deal done, has drawn the interest of the Eagles. The course said he could be into visit the Eagles and Giants.

Update [2007-3-6 15:52:27 by BleedGreen]: Dave Spadaro from PhiladelphiaEagles.com is reporting that Stallworth met with the Patriots today and left without a deal.

If the Pats
are truly considering Randy Moss, they'll work that deal before they go for Donte.  Hell, I'd like the Eagles to consider Moss.  Sure he has some baggage but that baggage is a lot less when he's playing in meaningful games.  Hmmmm, Donovan, Westbrook, Dillon, Moss, Brown, and LJ handling the ball with that o-line?  Talk about options!  Of course, it's not like Moss can be had for just a 2nd-rounder and some cash, but one can dream, can't one?  If only we could get Isiah Thomas to GM for the Raiders...

You can't be serious
that you would want the Eagles to sign Randy Moss. He is not someone I would want on a team I support.  I also dislike Corey Dillon -- don't want him either.

Too much baggage...
Sure, Donte likes the bud, but Moss also likes the bud plus is a complete headcase.  I think he could be another TO-type accident waiting to happen.

His talent is undeniable, but I've seen too much erratic behavior from him.

Dillon
He had attitude problems early in his career, but he really has cleaned up his act in his time in New England. I wouldn't be worried about him.

pats contract offer
6 yrs, 32 mill.

reportedly hasn't accepted yet.  Time for the Eags to pony up some cash so Reggie Brown and Baskett aren't the starters.  Not that I don't love those guys...as my 2 and 3.
