No takers for Stallworth so far | Buckhalter to visit Denver

Update [2007-3-4 15:7:14 by BleedGreen]: It appears as if Stallworth is not going to San Francisco, who were expected to be interested in him. The Niners signed WR Ashley Lelie to a 2 year deal. Also, WR Drew Bennett has signed a six-year, $30 million contract that includes $10 million in guarantees. The market for WRs is starting to take shape.

Good news for Eagles fans that would like to see Stallworth back next year. It's been pretty much widely accepted that the Eagles like Stallworth and would have liked for him to be back next year, but were not willing to pay him the kind of money he was expected to get in free agency. So far however, there has been no interest in Stallworth around the league.

Free agency is only in its infancy, but the fact that there has been little talk about wide receiver Donté Stallworth could work in the Eagles' favor. No news, essentially, is good news.

The Eagles would like to have the 26-year-old wide receiver, who caught 38 passes for 725 yards and five touchdowns last season, back in the fold. But, like most financial matters pertaining to the Birds, they only will have him back at their price. They aren't willing to overpay. They don't value any player that much.

So when the first day of free agency on Friday passed with little overall activity and even less chatter about Stallworth, optimism at the NovaCare Complex grew. Either Stallworth and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, were close to a deal or there was nothing in the works whatsoever.

The guess here is that nothing, so far, is in the works.

The fact that no teams have had any reported interest in Stallworth so far includes the Eagles. It's probably a bit early for optimism, especially since no WR has yet to set the market for what Stallworth will eventually be worth. Still, the fact that he wasn't brought in for physicals or meetings anywhere or snapped up on the first weekend of free agency can only work in the Birds' favor here.

From the same article, Correll Buckhalter is visiting Denver today. Knowing that RB factory that is Denver, he'll probably go there and rush for 1,200 yards next year... Either way, I'll take Corey Dillon if given the choice. I can't see the Eagles getting into a bidding war with anyone over Correll Buckhalter.

Also some leauge sources are saying that Titans RB Chris Brown will be making 3 visits next week and the Eagles are thought to be one of them.
