Takeo Spikes?

This is totally unconfirmed by any reliable source, but one of my friends called and said he'd heard (probably on WIP) rumors that the Eagles were about to sign Takeo Spikes.

Anyone else heard any rumors or is this complete BS?

There was some rumors
That he was available... I think after pursuing Fowler and Al Wilson it's obvious they are hot after a middle linebacker...

Question is
If the FO can't land Spikes or Wilson, will they try to move up in the draft and land Patrik Willis?

spikes trade
tonight on sportscenter they said buffalo is trying to move spikes...they also said the philadelphia has made the best offer so far...this is good since the Giants will likely land wilson.

Do we...
Want Spikes? Hes obviously an upgrade, but would it be better to just move up and take willis?

That's a big move up...
The Eagles would have to jump up from #26 to probably #10 or higher to get Willis. It's not easy to jump into the top 10 from #26...

Immediate improvement and future growth
If we get Spikes, I think that gives us our immediate improvement over Trotter.  I'd probably still like to get our MLB of the future on the roster.

If they think it's Gaither, fine, this buys him some time to grow into the role or for the Eagles to see if they'd rather him remain on the weakside or if McCoy can step up (and bulk up) to handle it.

If they think Gaither's destined for the weakside, Spikes gives them some flexibility to draft a guy who might not be as NFL ready as Willis, but could    be that MLB of the future.  Posluzny, perhaps?

I guess they might not be as inclined to use that first-round pick on a LB if they sign Spikes.

Also -- I'm guessing (and not saying anything remarkable, here, I know) that Trotter's days are most likely done here.  With all due respect to his leadership in the lockerroom, his hard work, and everything he's accomplished here, I'm afraid benched Trotter=unhappy Trotter=very negative locker room presence.

Trotter
There are some rumors that Spikes could end up playing the strong side with Trotter in the middle.

Also, Spikes could split time at SAM and MIKE.

so...
that being said does that finally put to rest the thought that trotter maybe played his last game here?

Yeah
I think all signs point to him coming back... as for Dhani Jones. Well, that's another story.

Jones vs. Trotter
Cutting Jones saves $2M, cutting Trotter saves $1.3M.  I think that's a no brainer that Jones is gone.

Of course, they may both get cut too.  If, for example, Gocong has a good camp, the Eagles might go with Gocong-Spikes-Gaither/McCoy, with Tank Daniels and a rookie or two and perhaps someone like Greg Richmond or Dedrick Roper as deep reserves.

Dream scenario
I think if the Eagles got exactly what they wanted... You'd see:

WILL - Spikes starting, McCoy backing up
MIKE - Trotter in better shape starting, Gaither logging alot of snaps(all passing downs) backing him up.
SAM - Gocong starting and like you said Daniels, Richmond, rookie ect as a reserve.
