BGN gets it mock on

Now that it appears the bulk of free agency is behind us with virtually all of the big names and even not so big names now signed, it's time to go headfirst into draft coverage. There will be several more entries in our "A Closer Look" series with possible Eagles draft picks. Plus there will several more mock draft roundups where we try to get a read on who could possibly be the Eagles 1st round pick.

Speaking of mock drafts, I figured it's time for BGN to get in on the craziness and present a mock draft of it's own.

I'll be doing this several times leading up to the draft and will look to have a few where the community gets involved as well. If you want to be a part of the next BGN mock draft and represent a team or multiple teams, just send an email to  bleedinggreenblog at gmail.com with "BGN mock draft" in the subject line.

So without further ado click read more for the first BGN mock draft.

Meriweather
I've liked what little I've seen of Meriweather, although I haven't watched enough college football the past season to be of too much use in this thread.

If they don't trade up, I'd be happy with this pick.  However, trade up, grab Willis to get a guy that would probably be a starter this year.

Be it Considine or a draft pick, I feel badly for whoever is Dawk's eventual "replacement."  IT'll be tough to watch a mere mortal try to fill in for #20.

I don't want to speak
for anyone else, though I think I would personally take Jamaal Anderson over Gaines Adams. That said, you've pegged the Redskins accurately in the above draft.

Yeah
Everyone has them taking Alan Branch, which I just don't see. For one, he's been awful in most of the post draft stuff he's been involved in. PLus, I just see the Skins wanting to get the kind of guy they wanted Kevin Carter to be.

That's why I had them taking Adams. I thought he fit that Carter type, speed rusher mold.

It's a safe pick
on behalf of the Redskins as they desparately need pass rush and Gaines Adams is recognized by most to be the Pass Rush specialist of the draft. How accurate that analysis is, or how much of it is simply a lot of people repeating each other I cannot say, but regardless it's a good pick for the 'Skins at #6.

Of course, they're going to trade down... (crosses fingers)

Trade down
I think that's the way to go. The Skins have very few picks so they could load up on a few extra selections, plus they could still pick up a quality DE like Anthony Spencer much later in the first round

So many...
Adam Carriker, Jarvis Moss, Tim Crowder, even Quentin Moses... lots of guys capable of playing at an NFL level that will be available throughout the 1st round at DE.

With similar size
I'll take the guy with much more speed...

Good Mock !
Very nice job. I've looked at a number of these, and this one looks good, very well thought out. I, too, think..hope...we go for a D-back and would be ecstatic if either Griffin or Meriweather dropped down to us. The PFT guys seem to know what they're talking about, usually, but they just came out w/ their mock 3.0 and they still! have the Birds taking a WR...w/ Greg Olsen(TE the U) and Timmons(FL St. backer) still on the board. I just don't see that. For all of our crying about losing Stallworth and getting another running back, D-Fence! is obviously the weakness and has to be the priority.

I don't see WR either
Not after drafting Reggie 2 years ago, drafting Avant last year and bringing in a rookie in Baskett, and signing Curtis this offseason. Unless a guy falls to them that they rate so high they can't pass him up, I'd be shocked to see them take a reciever.

Unless Calvin Johnson
falls all the way to them, or within trade-uppable distance of them, I don't see the point in getting a WR.

Too many bodies needed on defense, although Doss could give them back some flexibility in the draft, I guess.

DE in Comcast's Mock
Comcast has the Eagles taking Spencer, the DE from Purdue..I've seen that pick elsewhere as well. I'm not sure I can see that pick, either. But, even stranger, they have Spencer to the Eagles, while Timmons(LB FL.ST.), Griffin(S-TX)and Posluszny are all still on their board. Can they seriously see the Eagles passing on the above 3 to take an athletic DE ?

Maybe
Although I think people are falling into the Eagles trap about their interest in Spencer. The Eagles have even brought Spencer in for a visit. They normally don't do that with 1st round picks. I think they may be trying to set up a smokescreen so everyone thinks they are going to pick Spencer.
