Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Eagles @ Saints open thread

Philadelphia Eagles @ New Orleans Saints
Louisiana Superdome - New Orleans, LA
Time: 1:00pm
TV: FOX | Radio: 94.1 WYSP, Sirius 121
Uniforms: White jerseys with Green pants

For a Saints perspective check out Canal Street Chronicles.

Fun fact for you... The Eagles hold the advantage in the all time series between the two teams 14-9, but NO has won the last 2 meetings.

Notable inactives - RB Reggie Bush and our pro bowl G Shawn Andrews. Max Jean Gilles will start in his place.

I won't be able to post my thoughts and headlines until later tonight. Feast of the 7 fishes FTW! So use this as your pre-during-post game thread. Go Birds!

he has been picking up blitzes and giving McNabb a lot of time.

held the ball too long...
they are a bad defense, but they are not that bad.

For the record
I dont really miss Trotter. Gaither was the right choice.

Nothing against the younger version of Trotter though

dear fox announcers
yes the eagles O line has allowed 45 sacks this year... but it bears mentioning that they 12 of those sacks came in one game

timeouts...
Andy Reid, possibly the worst manager of timeouts in the history of the world.

by fuquamanuel on Dec 23, 2007 2:27 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

now...
we get to see the weekly 2 minute defensive collapse.

by fuquamanuel on Dec 23, 2007 2:36 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

fuck...
you simply can't keep giving up points at the end of the half when the opposing team gets the ball first in the second half.

Jim Johnson is a good defensive coordinator, granted. But he has serious problems coaching against the 2 minute drill and the players have a difficult time buckling down when they really need to.

by fuquamanuel on Dec 23, 2007 2:42 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

OUr play calling needs to get better
The defense is giving us numerous opportunities to put the saints away but we're keeping them in the game.... total bullshit

by JoeD on Dec 23, 2007 2:44 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yeah..
the problem was not that they didn't score enough points, its that they didn't keep enough of them off of the board.

This is ridiculous...
I'm done. See you next season.

by fuquamanuel on Dec 23, 2007 2:59 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No
I dont care, we were on the field al day, they werent stopping us yet we kept hem in the points... now we're tied... fucking eagles.. showing us why we suck

by JoeD on Dec 23, 2007 3:02 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

sorry...
spoke too soon. The next bad thing this team does, however, will result in me shutting off my computer and leaving until next year.

How about Stewart Bradley? He has filled in nicely.

Beautiful!
Gotta love a great goal line stand!!!

Hey fuqua, turn off the game and stop posting please.

Build up the trade value
Nothing like playoff elimination to really spark an offense?

by SJMIke on Dec 23, 2007 3:25 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i dont' think we should trade him
do you want to start over and rebuild?  everyone on our team is good, and if we go to kolb we have to wait til he matures.  in the meantime, westbrook gets older, so does our defense, and everyone.  mcnabb is good...he's getting better...the past two games he has played well...give him another year and time to come back from his injury completely.

by eagleyosh on Dec 23, 2007 3:27 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You wanna bet
that he can finish a whole season next year?

by SJMIke on Dec 23, 2007 3:37 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

you wanna bet?
that kolb won't be close to the level mcnabb is at now if kolb starts next year?

by eagleyosh on Dec 23, 2007 3:39 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Silly
You made me laugh with that one. One day there is going to be a different QB. He may be worse, he may be better. We wont know until we see. I do know that Im not going to miss McMope one bit. He can take his big sack of money, soupcans, and giganic load of baggage and enjoy the rest of his life. And then his mom can blog about how awful we were.

by SJMIke on Dec 23, 2007 4:02 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

were you there booing
when we drafted the best QB in eagle history?  you clearly just don't like mcnabb. i can understand trading him if he sucked, but he doesn't.  he's good.  look at his stats today.  he's coming off a bad injury, and he's finally getting back to form.  i'd rather take my chance that he's out a couple games next year than role the dice on an unproven rookie.

by eagleyosh on Dec 23, 2007 4:09 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Didnt Boo
You do realize that McNabb was the unproven rookie at one point, right? That Reid's strength is supposed to be evaluating QBs? Wheres you faith in organization? And your right I just dont like McNabb and Im tired of his act. I wish him well in future endeavors.

by SJMIke on Dec 23, 2007 4:30 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

mcnabb came in
when the team was 3-13 and any sort of success was years away.  we had no quarterback at that point.  right now this team is very close to being one of the best in the NFL.  putting kolb in now would not make sense.  i have faith that he'll be good at some point, but why put him in when we have an excellent QB right now, when healthy.  and where's your faith in the organization?  reids strength is supposed to be evaluating QBs right?  and he thinks mcnabb can still play.  so why do you trust his judgement on kolb, but not on mcnabb (the guy who took us to the superbowl and tons of success...)

by eagleyosh on Dec 23, 2007 4:35 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Now this is fun
Great goal line stand followed by a 98 yd TD drive.

We're not making the playoffs, but it's damn fun to watch this team play good football.

by slackerjoe on Dec 23, 2007 3:26 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

arghhh
the worst thing about today is that the goddamn dallas takeitintheasscowboys are gonna grab homefield advantage.

Encouraging for next year...
I like what I have seen out of Celek, Bradley, and McNabb. Looks like there is something to be excited about for next season.

Where's Akeem?
Not much from Akeem Jordan today.

Nice day from LBs Bradley and Gaither (when he was in there).

I thought that too...
But he actually led the team in tackles...

Good Win
It's nice to see the team show up to play today.

When the schedule first came out, it looked like week 15 and 16 were going to be the toughest part.  Result: a couple of nice road wins @ DAL and @ NO.

What we need to do is play better at home and regain some home field advantage.

I'm looking forward to '08 already!

Looking at the above comments
You'd think we were getting creamed. Why is everyone so damn negative? Get over yourselves, the Eagles were a damn good football team this year that got historically unlucky, and still clawed to at least 7-8. We almost beat the (potentially) best team in NFL history, and we beat the 2nd best team in the NFL this year. McNabb has been injured, it's now abundantly obvious, and he's on the up-and-up. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the rest of the year -- eventually, all that negative luck will revert to the mean. Let's get some f*cking optimism in here!
