SBNation week 5 power rankings

Us football bloggers affiliated with SBNation are back once again this week with our latest NFL power rankings. We all submitted separate ballots with our own power rankings and they were averaged out to one big consensus.

Rather than fill up the whole front page with it... I put it after the jump. So click read more for all the goodness.

Oh and the Eagles ended up ranked #22 by both myself and the consensus.

Power Rankings
They always seem so silly and with way too much movement week-to-week because the rankers put too much into schedule and too little into ability vs. the league.  If you need a proxy for this, look at which teams have won by 10 points or more over who.  All these wins by 3 points or less we've been seeing this year don't really tell you much except that one team got a single play more, a single lucky bounce of a fumble, a single fortunate call or non-call, or a single fortunte or unfortunate long field goal, than the other team that day.  Teams that crush lesser competion (like the Patriots), or that can beat other good teams that crush the competition are deserving of being up top.

The Cowboys meltdown vs. the Bills, who are the AFC's doormat, shows that they do not belong at #3, regardless of the 5-0 record.  They should be down below the Titans.

The Raiders don't belong below the Broncos, Bears, Panthers, and Lions.

The Eagles and Browns should be higher, the Panthers and Lions lower.

Too much credit is being given to teams currently holding a winning record who beat up the league doormats, and too little is being given to teams holding a losing record who have barely lost to teams in the upper half of the league.

Etc., etc.

Power Rankings
Power rankings always seem to make more sense by about midseason. That's a big enough sampling.
