Eagles training camp: Morning session part II, Aug. 5, 2011

Scaled_php_medium

Bigtime.  See that guy making the weird face behind Mike Patterson that kinda looks like the love child of Drew Rosenhaus and Bill Laimbeer, seemingly giving a thumbs up while looking like a douche with his sunglasses up on his forehead?  Yeah, that's me, bitches... on NFL Network.  Hollywood.

Onto Part II from this morning's session (Part I here):

11 on 11's:

- Run right by McCoy.  Nothing there.

- Bad blocking on a run play.  Shady breaks through the line anyway.

- Tupou still running with the 1's.  What's going on there?  Tupou has not looked good at any point this camp so far from what I've seen.  I hope he truly isn't being considered as an option to run with the 1's if Winston Justice isn't a go for Week 1.  There are at least 5 better options at RT.

- Vick pass complete to Ingram over the middle.

- Run up the middle to Schmitt.  Nothing there.

- Vick high ball to to Celek.  Goes up and gets it, but can't hang on.  Good coverage there again by Hanson, who's having himself a day.

Eagles training camp: Morning session, Aug. 5, 2011

Today marks the first day our newest Eagles free agent acquisitions can practice!  That means Nnamdi Asomugha, Jason Babin, Cullen Jenkins, Ronnie Brown, Evan Mathis, Ryan Harris, Jarrod Page, Anthony Hargrove, Vince Young, and others.  The stands are packed for the first time, and lucky for them, it was probably the most fan-friendly practice to date.  Let's get to it:

11 on 11's, thud:

- Vick to Avant down the seam.  Hanson beat on the play.  Some jackass in the stands yelling "You suck Hanson!"  Quick note to anyone attending training camp.  If the thought of yelling "You suck, (fill in player's name)" enters your mind ON THE VERY FIRST PLAY, just leave.  You're a crappy fan, and you're not needed.  Training camp is free, and we're weeks away from the actual season.  And Hanson had a really good season last year - At least know what you're talking about.  So just shut up.  And I think the fans in the area of that did some self-policing, because I didn't hear that guy again.  Anyway, it just kinda pissed me off, and as it turns out, Hanson had a great day.

(Sitting at the bar as I type this in between practice sessions, my buddy and amateur photographer buddy SR is looking over my shoulder and telling me to add "Don't yell to players by their last name to get them to turn around when you don't even know their first name."  For example, most fans will yell "Jeremy!" or "Todd!" when trying to get Maclin's or Herremans' attention, but will yell "Howard!" when yelling for Austin Howard.  That annoys him more than it annoys me, but he's not going to stop bugging me until I add this, so I may as well just it over with and put it in.)

- Quick out to Chad Hall, short left complete.  Nate Allen on the tackle.  Most common comment I hear when fans first see Chad Hall: Wow, I'm bigger than that guy.

- Celek double-catches a ball down the seam, and it's knocked away by Allen and Kurt Coleman. Coleman having a nice camp so far.

- Heavy blitz.  Vick rushes throw.  Incomplete to Riley Cooper.

- Hard count.  Babin jumps.  Quick out to Riley complete.  Eagles have been doing hard counts regularly all camp to try to get the defense to not jump anymore.  Right out of the gate, they get the new guy.

- Screen right.  Looked like they had something, but bad pass on the screen by Mike Kafka.

- Kafka pass over the middle to Hall.  Picked by Hanson.  Really nice play by Jose there (as Andy calls him) - They both gt hands on the ball, the ball popped up and Hanson made the grab as Hall fell.  No yells of "You're awesome, Hanson!" after the play.

Eagles training camp: Morning session, Aug 1, 2011, Part I

These are notes from the morning session two days ago.  Apologies for the delay posting these last night, but after the Eagles signed Ronnie Brown and Ryan Harris, this took a back seat.

A quick note on these observations: There are 90 players in camp.  It's impossible for one set of eyes to watch all 90.  My set of eyeballs are going to catch a good play here and there from one player, while I might miss a few bad ones from that same player that another pair of eyes might see... and vice versa.  Last year, I felt that one of the most impressive rookies I saw was Keenan Clayton.  Others had him as a total longshot to make the team.  I also thought Fenuki Tupou was playing well.  Oops.  Others thought otherwise and were probably right.  This year I think that so far, the most impressive rookie has been Curtis Marsh.  Others have been killing him.  With that disclaimer in place:

11 on 11's

- Nice out by Vick to Cooper left side.  Cooper keeps his feet in.

- Seam route incomplete to Avant.  Lindley playing Avant very physically.  Maybe too physically - might have been PI.  Still, good to see Lindley playing physically, something I didn't see much of last camp.

- Hard count.  Dixon jumps.  This is at least the 3rd time in 2 practices Dixon has jumped offsides.  You're right over the ball, Antonio.   No excuse for that.

- Hard count again.  This time Jason Peters jumps.  Sloppy.

Eagles training camp: Morning session, Part II, July 31, 2011

Eaglestrainingcamp043_medium

Wait, today is August 1st, right?  What gives?  Well, I didn't have enough time to type up all my notes from the morning session yesterday (although I was able to churn out about 1,600 words) during the break in between practices, so I'll finish up those today. Since there's no practice tomorrow, I'll post my notes from today at some point tomorrow.

11 on 11's (Late morning, temps getting up to 95-ish.  Hot.  Players are tired/uncomfortable, media types are cranky.)

- Vick stripped by Cole, Vick and Andy both yell at Cole.  Stripping the QB is a big no-no.  Don't what to be messing around near the QB's arm.  Cole would later explain he didn't mean it.

- Vick rollout left, pass picked off by Kurt Coleman.  D fired up.

- Run by Vick out of bounds.  Vick hasn't been super sharp with his passes so far in camp, although he looks way better now than he did this time last year.  But the speed is definitely still there.

-  Shady into the line.  Nothing there.  D playing well.

- Vick with a crisp pass to the outside to Avant.  Better.

- 2's in now.  Kafka does a nice job side-stepping pressure, dumps off short to Graig Cooper.  Graig Cooper looks like an early threat to Eldra Buckley.  Cooper will have to show he can play special teams in the preseason games, but the ability as a runner/receiver is there.

Eagles training camp: Morning session, July 31, 2011

Let's just get right to it...

1 on 1 receiver drills - TE/RB vs LB:

-          Dion Lewis vs Greg Lloyd - Lewis smokes Lloyd on this mismatch on a wheel route.

-          John Nalbone vs Jamar Chaney - Nalbone runs a nice post corner route, but Chaney stays with Nalbone the entire way and breaks up the pass.

-          Derrick Locke vs Moise Fokou - Nice coverage by Fokou on a short hitch by Locke.  Almost a pick.

-          Hey hey! Cornelius Ingram sighting!  Ingram runs a seem route, makes catch.

-          Graig Cooper vs Rashad Jeanty - Cooper doesn't even get into his route.  Jeanty just blows him up at the line.  Pass isn't even thrown.

-          Great matchup here: LeSean McCoy vs Keenan Clayton - McCoy jukes the crap out of Clayton on an out route, but drops the pass.

-          Martell Webb vs Moise Fokou - Webb with a corner route, but Fokou with coverage, breaks up the pass.  Two good plays in a row by Moise.

-          Owen Schmitt vs Brandon Peguese - Schmitt almost comically just runs directly into Paguese and blasts him, then turns to receive the pass, but it's a bad throw.

-          John Nalbone vs Greg Lloyd - Nice out route by Nalbone complete.  I have Lloyd pegged as a redshirt guy, by the way.  He's had a few major injuries.  I think the team with do with him what did with Ricky Sapp last year and place him on the IR.

Eagles training camp: Morning session August 30, 2011

Andy Reid, Vince Young, DRC, Jason Babin, and Joe Banner were all available to the press after practice today - some great stuff there.  I'll have more on that later today.  But for now, a recap of today's morning session:

1-on-1's : WR vs. CB

-          Avant vs. Hanson - Avant 5 yrd shitch, complete

-          Hall vs. Lindley - Good coverage by Lindley, Hall makes catch anyway.

-          DRC vs. Turner - Turner didn't have a chance.  DRC all over him like glue.  Incomplete.

-          Moss vs. Marsh - Deep ball to Moss incomplete.  Marsh ran with Moss stride for stride.

-          Cooper vs. Calvin - Cooper abuses Calvin physically on a square in for an easy catch.

-          Jones vs. Coleman - Jones burns Coleman deep.  Ball overthrown, incomplete.

-          84 (don't know who 84 is) vs. Marlin Jackson - Jackson beaten badly deep.  Jackson looks slow.

-          Avant vs. Wall - Wall very physical at the line with Avant.  Rare occurance when Avant doesn't beat a jam in these drills.  Incomplete.

-          Hall vs. Adams - Jamar Adams is huge for a safety.  Looks like a linebacker.  The shifty Hall beats him easily.

-          Avant vs. Jarrett - Jarrett playing off Avant.  Easy slant complete.

-          Quick note: Nate Allen is on the field and participating is some drills but not all.  He's not in on this session.

-          Hanson vs. Cooper - Nason playing off.  Cooper with the easy in route.

-          DRC vs. Moss - Almost a pick.  DRC now getting applause from the crown and respect from the other corners.

-          Rod Harper vs. Lindley - Gorgeous deep ball by Vick. TD.

-          Keith Carlos vs. Brandon Hughes - Easy slant complete.

-          Cooper vs. Trufant - Quick comeback complete.  Cooper running good, professional routes.  Looks sharp.

-          Avant vs. Calvin - Quick out complete.

-          Hall vs. Wall - Hall breaks Wall's ankles on comeback.

-          Gerald Jones vs. Adams - Good jam at the line by Adams, pass complete but took forever.

-          Moss vs. M. Jackson - Jackson now playing way off.  Easy short completion.
