Eagles will win an uncomfortably close game
I am optimistic about the season despite the issues at linebacker and the questions on the D line.  The offense will carry them in game one. They may give up 17-20 but they will score 21-24. Eagles win 21-17.

A walk...
McNabb will show he's back, and pick apart GB's so-so secondary. GB has no real running game, so our LB's won't be tested too much. I predict pain, and lots of Favre i-n-t-s. Eagles 34-13

Two Halves...
Will tell two different stories.  I am wondering how long it will take for Conservative Andy to show up.  I see the Eagles putting up a goodly amount of points early, but letting GB hang around just long enough to make most of us scream at the TV.

Over Under
Brett Favre will be the key difference-maker in this game. It's not will he throw a pick, but how many INT's he will give up. I predict one pick each for Lito Shepard and Sheldon Brown.

Does anyone think 2 INT's is too many or too few to expect out of Favre?

wow
We're awful! Another year and Andy still cant get the guys ready to play! I cant stomach these penalties

Zantac
Okay, they're finally moving the ball a bit, but I still need some Zantac after that quarter.

by sdf on Sep 9, 2007 1:53 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Okay, still need it
That was some truly godawful play calling, especially on the third down.

... and another f*ing penalty on the field goal.

Reid truly can't get his team ready to play, nor, apparently, is he ready to coach.

by sdf on Sep 9, 2007 1:56 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Just to add
You have the ball at the six and you don't try to throw it into the end zone once.  And you call very similar plays on second and third down.

Though I am glad that they were running it more on that drive.

Good tackle
I've been a Considine doubter, but that was a good tackle.

by sdf on Sep 9, 2007 2:04 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

we're actually running the football
and we're looking really good on this drive. Anytime you can convert 3 straight 3rd downs its a good thing

we are blacked out
due to the Redskins being on ABC, but I am trying to follow it on Gamecast. Frustrating! All you get are the bare statistics. Seems like Gocong is making some plays?  Avant seems to be making some catches?  Who else (besides Westbrook, of course) is looking good?

by lbg on Sep 9, 2007 2:21 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

for the first time ever I am on the Considine bandwagon. Hes playing great

Actually I am VERY VERY happy with the entire defense at this point

Agreed
Right with you on Considine.  Great job breaking up that pass at the start of the drive.

After playing real well the whole half, though, the defense looked a bit back on their heels there on the 2-minute drill, until Reagor got that sack, which probably saved them 3 points.

By the way, I hate calling that time out on defense when it's 3rd and 9; if they convert, you've just given them an extra time out.  If it's 3rd and 16, maybe, or if they're on their own 4 yard line, but otherwise, well ...

Halftime highlights
Donovan had all the time in the world on that touchdown pass.  Props to the O-Line.

Uncomfortable
We look MUCH better--I am just about over my nausea after that first quarter. I am never comfortable with a tie game, though--we're just giving them too much room. I think there will be quite a tongue-lashing in the locker room.

kearse
after kearse went walking off with a little bit of a limp, did anyone see if he came back into the game or not?

by zzk34 on Sep 9, 2007 2:53 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He's back
without a limp

But Lito is out
with a sprained knee.  They haven't said more about how serious it might be.

by sdf on Sep 9, 2007 3:07 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

3rd down conversions
Up until that play they'd been doing a good job converting on 3rd downs, which, of course, is because they've had more 3rd and 5 or 3rd and 6's, which, in turn, is because they've actually been running the ball.

... and it's good!  Good to see Akers hit a long one.  And good to have a lead, finally.

Greg Lewis must be replaced
Apparenty you can't just put somebody back there.
Hard to believe.

Special teams loses the game.

Unbelievable.

by sdf on Sep 9, 2007 4:12 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And, of course
needless to say, there's absolutely no reason to call a timeout there.

Reid doesn't get the whole concept of timeouts.

sad
packers suck sooooo much on offense. how the hell did we manage to lose this game. very sad day. punt return practice all week. westbrook up the middle all day is not a very good idea.

special teams
that was horrible playing by the special teams today. those kind of decisions get you cut. unbelievable. simply unbelievable.

I think Conservative Andy showed up
For the entire game.  Can't wait to see how the press conference is going to go, especially on the special teams, the playcalling, and the seeming inability to catch simple passes.

atleast bloom didnt muff punts!
But also for the record I thought mcnabb was awful today, didnt look like the same guy... I now have to call cingular tomorrow morning and get a new cell phone... and i gotta figure out how to fix the hole in my drywall... i really wish i was kidding about this one

Conservative play-calling aside
The Eagles had the ball in a tie game at Packers 38 with four minutes to go and went backwards. And don't forget that Westbrook dropped 3 or 4 passes. The offensive line didn't give McNabb much time and took a lot of penalties. They pretty much got dominated by the Packers. Before everyone starts piling on McNabb, he was facing a very good pass rush the entire game and his offensive line didn't play well. The Eagles win with ease if the coaching staff could have put a player on the field that had experience returning punts. I think this is very similar to the Tampa Bay game from last year.

On a positive note, the d played really well. The LBs didn't get embarassed. And JAvant looks like a player.

by master94 on Sep 9, 2007 5:06 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed on O-Line
Looked okay early, but in the second half they weren't giving McNabb nearly enough time, and, as that pitiful sequence after Kearse's fumble recovery showed, couldn't give Westbrook any holes either.

by sdf on Sep 9, 2007 5:18 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

in agreement
I agree with everything master said - luckily, this is real football, not college football, so one loss doesn't ruin your entire year.  with that said, this was a tough one to swallow, and you have to question a coaching staff that will release their only punt-returner and seemingly ignore any problems it might cause (like embarrassing themselves today).

My kids are hiding...
Eagles lose, daddy will be nasty all week. I was thrilled w/ the D. Offense was offensive (I counted 6 dropped passes and missed the first quarter and a half- thanks Direct Tv!) Special teams arrived on the special bus. Skins on Monday night- at least 8 days until my wife can walk by me without flinching. (I'm kidding, ok?)

Andy- call Jeremy Bloom and tell him you're sorry.

by AZ Iggle on Sep 9, 2007 5:26 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

On GLew return
I was at a bar without sound, did the announcers mention any interference on his punt return. Don't the rules stipulate that the kicking team has to give him room to make the catch?

by master94 on Sep 9, 2007 5:30 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

How many drops must we suffer?
DMac didn't play nearly as bad as the 15-33 might indicate.
