The Jason Peters Question

Pretty obvious "situation" here... the player who will cost the Eagles the most in 2017 will be Jason Peters. The player who would also save the most money if cut will be Jason Peters ($9,200,000).

However, the position which is, arguably, the most crucial in assisting Wentz is left tackle. The player who currently plays left tackle will be traveling to Hawaii to play in the Pro Bowl.

That player will also be 35 years old in two weeks. The Eagles right tackle, Lane Johnson, who will cost the Eagles the second most in 2017, could conceivably switch to left tackle. This would, obviously, cause some concern at right tackle, where, without Johnson last season, the Eagles went 2-8.

Tough decision, but I predict the Eagles will move on from Peters and release him. It will be a difficult move, but if they also release Connor Barwin, they would erase two of their top five heftiest contracts for 2017. The extra space in free agency could open room for signing a top corner or receiver (a "need" position) while the Eagles continue to build their offensive line through the draft and collect other needs.

This would be an easy decision to make if Peters had a rocky 2016, and I'm sure it's not a decision either Roseman or Pederson wants to make. But I have a hunch the brass will not hang onto a player who doesn't fit into the Eagles long-term future.
