The Eagles officially signed Philadelphia Soul defensive lineman Jake Metz on Tuesday morning, according to an official announcement from the team. Metz was one of two Soul players who worked out for the Eagles on Monday. Here's what we wrote about Metz earlier.
The 25-year-old Metz measures in at 6-6, 265 pounds. He attended college at Shippensburg and had a few workouts with NFL teams (including the Eagles) after going undrafted in 2014, but he was never signed to a contract. In 2016, Metz recorded 29 tackles, seven sacks, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles. He was named the Arena Football League's Defensive Lineman of the Year earlier this month.
Metz's time with the Eagles could be very brief. All 32 NFL teams are required to cut their rosters down to the 53-man limit by 4:00 PM ET this Saturday, Sept. 3.
Still, playing in the NFL for the first time ever should be a nice opportunity for Metz. The recent ArenaBowl champion should be able to get some snaps in Philadelphia's fourth preseason game against the New York Jets.
With Metz under contract, the Eagles' roster stands at 74 players. The team still has room to add one more player before or after the 75-man roster limit is imposed today at 4:00 PM ET.
