The Eagles will host West Virginia cornerback Daryl Worley on a pre-draft visit, according to a report from Greg Madia of WVSports.com (hat tip to BGN reader karirocks). Worley, no relation to Vance, is scheduled to visit the team's facility in Philadelphia leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft. Worley is a Philly native so this might not count towards the team's 30 visits since he's a local guy.
Worley measures in at 6-1, 204 pounds. He played three years at West Virginia, finishing his college career with 143 tackles (nine tackles for loss), 10 interceptions, 21 passes defensed, and two forced fumbles. His most productive season came in 2015, so he ended his time with the Mountaineers on a high note.
The Eagles already have nine cornerbacks on the roster so it's easy to wonder if they might view Worley as a safety. They're still looking for depth there behind starters Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod. Some scouting reports suggest Worley can make the position switch.
"Strengths - Has height and arm length that every secondary coach loves. Instinctive and willing to operate outside of his zone. Won't lose the 50/50 battle very often. Sits down on receivers when ball is in the air and uses well-timed leap and outstanding hands to break it up or take it away. Credited with 12 pass breakups and six interceptions last season. Stellar reactive quickness with hands to pluck interceptions after undercutting routes. Redirects receivers with aggressive shoves. Decent finisher as tackler.
Weaknesses - Doesn't have the loose hips or fluid feet to mirror and match in man coverage. The more layered the route, the more separation allowed. Passive in bail coverage allowing significant throwing run underneath. At times becomes preoccupied with the vertical chase and fails to find deep ball headed his way. Would like to see more aggression from him play after play. Sits and waits in run support. Doesn't use size to overpower blockers and get into running backs early.
Bottom Line - Worley has excellent ball skills, but lacks the agility and hips to maintain his feel for receivers underneath. A move to a defense that employs more press and trail technique should benefit him and teams looking for range and instincts could try him at free safety. Worley's traits make him worthy of a Day 3 draft selection, but his success may be tied to his scheme fit."
CBS Sports projects Worley as a fifth or sixth round pick.
