rstocker87's Third Mock Offseason

As voted by the members of BleedingGreenNation.com, this offseason will be based upon the condition that we let Bradford walk in free agency. I personally think this is our best option as it will help us with cap flexibility, will most likely net us a compensatory pick next year, proves that Bradford just doesn't have what it takes unless there's an elite team around him, and let's Doug pick his QB of the future (although he could do that while re-signing Bradford). Please note that all player transactions that have already happened are treated as a given and will not be outlined in this, so yes Riley Cooper is cut and I didn't include that in cuts :D .

Re-sign/Extend

Seyi Ajirotutu - With Dave Fipp back, he's going to be fighting for one of his best STers, he also gives depth. League minimum probably

EJ Biggers - He gets league minimum most likely and would be a camp body/depth

Malcolm Jenkins - He's proven to be a top-5 safety in the league (even though he has stone hands), lock him in for another 2-3 years

Fletcher Cox - Everyone knows he's the Eagles best player, it hurts that they didn't sign him before the cap rose as it gives him more bargaining money but he's worth every penny. Idk when this deal will get done, but hopefully before the season starts.

Cut/Let Walk

Matt Tobin - I was tempted to keep him because he can play 4 spots on the line, but his play was worse than a backup last year, let him go

David Molk - Bring in a guy that wants to be more than a backup or at least push himself, according to the book, he's okay with not playing

Nolan Carroll - Carroll can be a decent CB2 somewhere and I think that's what he wants, he'll be too expensive to be a depth player

Walter Thurmond - As much as I loved having two good safeties last year, I think his play outpriced him from us and who knows if he fits what Jim Schwartz wants in a safety. Word also is they haven't talked to his camp yet.

Thad Lewis - who cares

Cedric Thornton - He's been a solid player over the years, but we've got a lot of money tied up in the line for a one-dimensional player. Sad to see him go, but we don't know if he's a scheme fit

Demeco Ryans - If we had a different coach last year, he would probably be gone already. We can save money by cutting him because he just isn't worth what he's paid any more. It's a shame as he's been one of my favorite Eagles since we got him.

Mark Sanchez - He's not the guy I would want being my stopgap and is paid too much to be backup or 3rd string. His play was bad last year

Free Agency

Kendall Reyes, DE/DT 6'4" 300 lbs, 26 years old - Considered a 2nd round bust at this point in his career, maybe a change of scenery will help. He will be a rotational player that can play DE/DT and still has some upside in that he's only 26 years old.

Jeff Allen, G 6'4" 304 lbs, 26 years old - Allen follows his OC from last year over to us. He's a young and quality starter and can be plugged into the starting lineup day 1. This fills one of our biggest needs and helps our line get younger and more talented.

Robert Golden, S 5'11" 202 lbs, 25 years old - Golden only started 3 games last year, but looked good in run support in his playing time. He's a young guy that has potential and will compete for a starting job.

Chase Daniel, QB 6'0" 225 lbs, 29 years old - This idea is going to pick up steam like crazy as there's been a report by Rapoport that says Pederson sees Daniel as more than a backup. He's a decent QB that will get the team by, so that means he's a stop gap while the team develops a young QB. Look no further than Pederson himself when he was in the league and mentored Donovan McNabb and was replaced mid-season.

Joe Looney, C/OG, 6'3" 309 lbs, 25 years old - I've had him in my previous mock and I think it's a realistic signing. Looney has always been a backup and will come cheap. He has has versatility in that he can play both C and OG and is very different from Kelce when it comes to body size. He is still only 25, so this is an upside and backup signing.

It's possible that Pederson will move Trey Burton to FB, but for now I'm going to say they'll sign one in free agency. Also expect other depth/ST signings.

Draft

Round 1: Paxton Lynch, QB Memphis, 6'6" 230 lbs - I've had him in almost all my mocks because I think it's a very realistic pick. If the coaching staff likes him and he's there at 13, expect this pick. He's a big-bodied QB with plus athleticism, a strong arm, and above average accuracy. He definitely has to work on mechanics and footwork, which will help with his accuracy and ability to move in the pocket. Also look for him to improve his timing and reading of the defense. While he may not be the perfect pick at 13, he's a guy that Reich and Pederson can coach up personally to be their guy going forward, which is huge for a new coach that has a hole at the most important position in sports.

Round 3a: Sterling Shepard, WR Oklahoma, 5'10" 193 lbs - I've said before that I would prefer getting a savvy vet like Anquan Boldin in free agency, but got a lot of flak for it. I'm not a huge fan of using another 3rd round pick on WR as that means we'll have used a 1st, 2nd, and two 3rds in the past three years, but Shepard can bring some speed to our WR corps. He's quick and fast and will make his defenders respect him with a healthy cushion. He catches with his hands and is not known for dropping the ball. It remains to be seen if he can play outside, so maybe he moves to the slot while Matthews and Agholor play outside. Obviously size is a concern.

Round 3b: Willie Beavers, OG/OT Western Michigan, 6'5" 325 lbs - Beavers has the size and athleticism that scouts look for. He needs to get a bit stronger, but overall shows pretty good technique. He'll definitely need to hit the weights and be coached up a bit though. It remains to be seen if he's a better fit at guard or tackle, but for now will compete with Gardner for the starting RG and will be a top OT backup. I'm a believer that he's going to do well at the combine and you'll see him rise up the draft boards, some have him as a day 3 prospect right now.

Round 4a: Maliek Collins, DT Nebraska, 6'2" 300 lbs - This draft is loaded with DT prospects. Collins is known for having very good athleticism for a DT and was a more effective pass rusher than his 2.5 sacks in 2015 suggests. He needs to get stronger at the point of attack as he can be overpowered by double teams at times, making him a better pass rusher than run stuffer and more of a situational player. That's fine since we have Cox and Logan in there and just need some young rotational pieces to spell them at times.

TRADE! - Trade up into the 4th for one of our 5ths and a 6th

Round 4b: Antonio Morrison, MLB Florida, 6'1" 232 lbs - Morrison was the heart and soul of Florida's defense. He's an intense player with very good athleticism that allows him to punish the ball carrier. He's a little light, which means he doesn't always stack and shed blockers and will sometimes go around them. An NFL weight training program should help him bulk up to address this problem. He most likely will be a depth player, but who knows, our LB corps is kind of a mess. Hicks is young and looked good last year, but can he play MLB in a 4-3? Kendricks regressed badly last year, he also played SAM in his first year, can he do it again? Kiko obviously looked terrible last year and it was apparent his knee injuries were affecting his play. Can he regain his form? All of these questions make it imperative we bring in someone like Morrison.

Round 5: Rashad Robinson, CB LSU, 6'2" 182 lbs - I went back and forth whether I wanted to make this pick for awhile. The reason? Robinson has a ton of talent and potential, but major character concerns. He was on academic parole a few times as he didn't have good grades and was dismissed from the team after he was accused of breaking into a teammates apartment and stealing. I feel almost sick saying this, but the kid started as a true freshman on an LSU defense that consistently churns out NFL players, maybe we should give him a chance. When it comes to his play though, he's got very good athleticism, speed, and fluidity. He's a bit lanky, so bigger receivers may overpower him. Hopefully he can put on weight without sacrificing any of his athleticism. He's also been away from the sport for almost 2 seasons, so that's a concern. He'll be depth, and if he's eventually cut, he's a 5th rounder so it doesn't hurt too much.

Round 7a: Deon Bush, S Miami (FL), 6'1" 201 lbs - Bush brings good size and athleticism to the safety position. He's a little lean, but isn't afraid to hit. He also has good fluidity to his game. He needs to work on route recognition and playing under control as well as playing his angles correctly. These problems leave him out of position at times in both the run and pass game. He's a project player that can play special teams while he improves his game as well as give depth to our paper-thin secondary.

Round 7b: Keenan Reynolds, RB Navy, 5'10" 190 lbs - Reynolds is making the transition from QB to RB, although it's not a big one since Navy QBs pretty much are RBs. He's a bit light, but will probably put some weight on to prepare himself to be an NFL RB and not just an option QB at Navy. He's very athletic, shows great cuts and vision, and has solid speed. He can take direct snaps and has been working on his return game. His biggest tests are going to be how he stacks up in pass protection and route running, neither of which he did in college. They are both very big parts of an RBs game. I'm not a fan of Kenjon Barner and Darren Sproles is in his last year. Demarco may be gone as soon as it makes sense financially and Mathews only plays 8 games a year. So thinking about the future at RB should be in the back of our minds.

Just a few more notes, I was thinking of picking up Kenneth Dixon with our first 3rd (assuming not already gone) if we either traded Mathews or traded/cut Sproles. What do you think either of their value (realistically please) is in a trade? I can't see us spending a high pick like that unless one of them is gone. I used a mix of walterfootball.com and CBS sports to get a feel for each players stock right now.
