Interesting take on the offseason

While it has been a wild offseason, there is reason to believe Chip Kelly has succeeded in a big way in his first offseason with full personnel control. Though a lot of talent and production has left, take a step back and look at the position groups.

This offseason the Eagles have certainly improved at the cornerback position with the acquisitions of Maxwell and Thurmond and the departures of Williams and Fletcher. There is no debate here.

At the linebacker position, the Eagles have also probably improved albeit the departure of Trent Cole, for Kiko Alonso has come in, and Brandon Graham is set for a bigger role.

At the running back position, though it is hard to trump the success of McCoy last year, bringing in the NFL's 2014 leading rusher helps. With Mathews also being signed, it appears like this year has the edge.

At quarterback, we have improved at least in Chip Kelly's mind, for why else would he have done the trade? Remember, 2014 Foles was not 2013 Foles.

At the offensive line, the Eagles lost Herremans, and although that may have been tough to swallow, Herremans' poor play last year wasn't just due to injury. Chip Kelly trusts Allen Barbre, who was injured last year, but showed potential in 2013. We'll call it even.

At the safety position, Nate Allen left, but there is still the draft, and can anyone be THAT worse than Allen?

There is no question on whether we have improved at wide receiver. We haven't.

So the final count is 4-1 or 4-2. That is a positive marker, and there are still 8 picks in the draft. Was this offseason painful? Yes. But was the pain worth the end result? It is starting to looks like it.
