Why Are We Such Whiny B*****s?

Not writing this to call anyone out - I'm genuinely curious.

Significant minority of our fanbase reacts to every tidbit of Eagles news as evidence that we're headed into the toilet, that Chip's arrogant "plan" is falling apart before free agency's even officially begun let alone the actual season, that no players want to play for him because he's a dick who's created a toxic atmosphere, etc. Take away Kelly and insert another name there, it's always the same.

Starts as this knee-jerk reaction to complain and then the complainer creates this fantasy world that they keep harping on, as if they have the first f-ing clue about what's going on behind-the-scenes at the Eagles or even have the vaguest firsthand notion of how an NFL team is run. Every development is then crammed thru that lens (or ignored if it doesn't fit). The common thread is that said person(s), like all of us, are just talking 100% out their ass... they've got no idea how things are yet they choose to read them in the most negative manner possible.

Every team's fans do this to an extent, sure, but in my experience we're some of the worst with it. I haven't lived in the Philly area since the 1990s, but every time I visit I always notice that when the Eagles come up - even if we're playing well - the default stance is to find something to complain about. Sometimes I get the sense these people don't even really *enjoy* following the team, rather than entertainment it's just a platform for them to project disappointment about their own lives onto. I mostly lurk on here but read a lot of the comments, and interspersed with some great posters who understand the nuances of the game & business there are a lot of dudes who fit the above description - bitch, moan, overreact, hold grudges, whine and complain every time there's an opening.

So yeah - why are we like this? As someone from the region living abroad, people always bring up the Negadelphia stereotype... my first reaction is to get defensive but honestly it's true. Does it all start with Philly sports radio & media? Or are they just playing to an existing audience? I love the city and it'll always be my true home, but for some reason we are whiny a$$holes and I've never been able to figure out why.
