Bored at work so I figured "Hey, why not make an Eagles' mock draft?" So here it is, feel free to rip it to shreds.
Picks: 1(20), 2(52), 3(84), 4(113), 5(145), 5(156), 6(196), 7(237)
*TRADES*
- Don't agree with this move but Eagles send Brandon Boykin and their 6(196) to the Dolphins for their 2(47).
- Eagles send 1(20), and 3(84) to the Ravens for 1(26), and 2(58).
- Eagles send 1(26), and 2(52) to the Saints for 1(31), 2(44), and 7(230).
Explanation for these trades:
- Boykin obviously isn't satisfied with his role on the team, and despite what Chip says, I doubt he gives him a real chance to start. I think Brandon has shown enough potential to warrant a second round pick in return.
- Waynes, Peters, and Strong are all on the board- and I'm not interested in any besides maybe Peters. We call around, Baltimore says they're very interested. We agree to a trade, sending two picks a piece.
- Saints simply see a prospect they really covet and want to move up to nab him. We send two picks and receive three from the Saints.
After trades picks: 1(31), 2(44), 2(47), 2(58), 4(113), 5(145), 5(156), 7(230), 7(237).
Mock Draft
Round 1 Pick 31: Jake Fisher T/G
Pros: Quick mover, excelled in zone blocking scheme while at OREGON, has light feet that help him mirror opponents, maintains good balance.
Cons: Needs to get stronger, punch is inconsistent, needs to have better feet in the run game.
Round 2 Pick 44: Eric Rowe S/CB
Pros: Long, and athletic, started this past season at CB after three seasons at safety, not afraid to hit/tackle.
Cons: Not very quick twitch(as expected with most long framed athletes), struggles to keep up with the faster receivers, not the best instincts.
Round 2 Pick 47: Byron Jones CB/S
Pros: Like Rowe, Jones is long and athletic, reads plays quickly and reacts, safety experience, has speed to cover deep.
Cons: Also like Rowe, Jones isn't the quickest guy, he's not known for his physicality, can be too high on his backpedal.
Round 2 Pick 58: Devin Smith WR
Pros: Plays up to his 4.4 speed, effortless strider, could take it to the house whenever the ball is in his hands, great on special teams.
Cons: Small-ish hands, limited route tree, leaves some to be desired in the run game from blocking stand point, focuses too much on getting up field before ball is secured.
Round 4 Pick 113: Ali Marpet OG
Pros: Plays low allowing him to gain leverage on opponent, very quick out of stance, good punch while pass blocking, more than held his own at the Senior Bowl.
Cons: CompetitIon(D3), tends to lunge and not get his weight behind his blocks.
Round 5 Pick 145: Shaq Mason C/G
Pros: Tough, buries defenders in the run game, wins leverage with ease(he's 6'1"), game strong, more than capable pass blocker(small sample size-Georgia Tech).
Cons: Short armed, tends to get lazy with hand placement in the run game/pass game, not a great athlete.
Round 5 Pick 156: Davis Tull LB
Pros: Relentless, good versus the run and pass, sets the edge and understands containment, good pass rush moves.
Cons: Tape shows an average athlete- combine complete opposite, arm length isn't ideal, needs to work on wide rush.
Round 7 Pick 230: Obum Gwacham OLB
Pros: Very long, explosive athlete, comfortable in space, high motor, very raw.
Cons: This past season was his first on defense, prior to that he was a WR, needs to put on weight/build strength, going to need time to develop.
Round 7 Pick 237: DeAndre Smelter WR
Pros: For a guy his size displays surprising quickness, huge mits(11"), will run through you, consistently wins at catch point.
Cons: Coming off of a torn ACL, limited route tree, only two years of football.
Welp, there you have it. If you actually took the time to look this over, thanks a lot. Have a great day folks!
