No reason for concern about Eagles pass catchers...

The panic set in when the Eagles released pro-bowl wide receiver Desean Jackson. One of the Eagles biggest targets was given to a rival for nothing but a few dollars in cap savings.

The panic was alleviated when the Eagles drafted Jordy Matthews and Michael Huff in the 2nd and 3rd round. The Eagles pass catchers even turned into a brief strength with Maclin back and Jordy looking like his uncle.

However, 1 preseason game of some drops, an injuries to Maclin and Cooper have the city back in a panic over the Eagles Pass Catchers. A concern I think is still overstated.

Last Season the Eagles went with a ton of 3 wide receiver sets with 1 RB and 1 TE. Jackson and Cooper were the outside WR, Avant the slot, Celek the TE and McCoy the RB.

This year that package was slated to be Maclin, Cooper, Mathews/smith, Celek, and McCoy. But as we know, Chip likes to tailor his offense to his strengths. What are the Eagles strengths currently? TE and RB. Picture a 2 TE, 2RB, 1WR set where you have Sproles and McCoy, Ertz and Celek, and for the time being Jordy Mathews. The versatility of Sproles and Ertz will allow this package to feature a slot receiver at any time with these 2 great slot options. It will also allow for Celek to help Barbe against better DE's by chipping more often and acting more as a blocker, which might be his best strength. And its not like the Depth for these 2 positions ends there. Polk is a more than capable runner. Tucker looked good in the first preseason game. TE Casey got some good money to come to Philly.

The reality of the situation is that the eagles have enough depth at other positions to make up for what could be considered a weakness of this offense. Tom Brady has dealt almost his entire career without a true standout WR (save for Moss). And when he had the 2 TE monster's for him he was incredibly effective. The Eagles dont have to go with 3 WR sets often this year, and I dont think Chip Kelly minds.
