Lines are sure to shift between now and kickoff, but these game by game spread predictions and picks will hopefully help you in your decision on when and where to back the Eagles come Sunday.
Week 1: Sunday, September 7 - Jaguars @ Eagles
Predicted Spread: Eagles -13
Preview: Historically double digit favorites are not a winning proposition. From 1978 to 2012 double digit favorites covered the spread only 43.7% of the time. In a lot of situations this game would be easy for the Eagles to overlook, however being that it's the season opener I think the Birds come out guns blazing and light the Jags up cover the big number.
Pick: Eagles
Week 2: Monday, September 15 - Eagles @ Colts
Predicted Spread: Eagles +3
Preview: The Indianapolis Colts were an impressive 10-6 against the spread last season as Andrew Luck continues to come up big in clutch situations. The Eagles were an impressive road team last year, going 6-2, however the Colts just seem to figure out a way to win at home and unfortunately is the play here.
Pick: Colts
Week 3: Sunday, September 21 - Redskins @ Eagles
Predicted Spread: Eagles -4
Preview: The return of DeSean Jackson will undoubtedly dominate the talk leading up to this game. DeSean will be hungry to make a statement and could burn the Eagles secondary for a few big plays. The Redskins will only be in their third game with the new Jay Gruden system. Couple that with Robert Griffin III's struggles completing in the pocket and the Eagles will be set to spoil DeSean's homecoming.
Pick: Eagles
Week 4: Sunday, September 28 - Eagles @ 49ers
Predicted Spread: Eagles +6
Preview: The 49ers were a safe bet last year going 11-5 against the spread during the regular season. San Francisco is a physical team and should be a formidable matchup for the Birds. Look for Chip Kelly to dig deep into the bag of tricks to open up the Eagles offense and out scheme the 49ers defense. Not predicting a W for the Eagles, but believe they score enough to keep it close and cover.
Pick: Eagles
Week 5: Sunday, October 5 - Rams @ Eagles
Predicted Spread: Eagles -6
Preview: The St. Louis Rams were not your typical 7-9 team. Suffering from being in the super competitive NFC West, the Rams defensive line excelled and they managed quality wins against playoff bound New Orleans and Indianapolis. I'm not sold on Sam Bradford as a franchise QB and believe this is a favorable matchup for the Birds revamped defensive. Six points is too much to lay though against a team with a solid defense, Eagles win but don't cover.
Pick: Rams
Week 6: Sunday, October 12 - Giants @ Eagles
Predicted Spread: Eagles -4.5
Preview: Much like RG III, Eli Manning is coming off a down year and required to learn a new system for the 2014 season. As expected Chris Snee retired adding to the questions for the New York Giants offensive line. This is not a playoff team, but don't underestimate Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning's ability to show up for divisional battles. Eagles squeak one out here, but won't cover.
Pick: Giants
Week 7: BYE WEEK
Week 8: Sunday, October 26 - Eagles @ Cardinals
Predicted Spread: Eagles +3
Preview: Like the Eagles the Cardinals finished 10-6, unfortunately for Arizona their 10-6 was not good enough to advance to the playoffs. The Cardinals proved to be a tough matchup for the Eagles at home, but the Eagles survived 24-21 thanks in part to some fortunate bounces and calls. The X factors in this game are Carson Palmer and Darren Sproles. Sproles will force the Cardinals to get out of press coverage and Carson will continue to deliver interceptions.
Pick: Eagles
Week 9: Sunday, November 2 - Eagles @ Texans
Predicted Spread: Eagles -3.5
Preview: On paper this game looks like the Eagles should win, which is exactly what scares me. A non-conference road game sandwiched between two tough conference games is the perfect formula for a let down game. Couple that with the intense defensive line of the Texans and I think the Eagles let one get away from them here and fall to the Texans.
Pick: Texans
Week 10: Monday, November 10 - Panthers @ Eagles
Predicted Spread: Eagles -3
Preview: After the Texans let down and a long week to prepare, I predict the Monday Night game against the Panthers will be a real statement for the 2014 Eagles. Without Steve Smith the Panthers will be much easier to scheme against defensively. It will be a low scoring affair, but Foles, McCoy and crew will find a way to put enough points to out last the Panthers.
Pick: Eagles
Week 11: Sunday, November 16 - Eagles @ Packers
Predicted Spread: Eagles +4.5
Preview: Last year the Eagles went into Lambeau Field and came away with an impressive 27-13 victory. This year is expected to be much tougher as we can assume a healthy Aaron Rodgers will be behind center and not turnover machine Scott Tolzien. Green Bay's defense was the bottom of the league in nearly every defensive category, and I don't believe a past his prime Julius Peppers is enough. The Eagles offense will keep them in this game.
Pick: Eagles
Week 12: Sunday, November 23 - Titans @ Eagles
Predicted Spread: Eagles -7.5
Preview: It will take a lot for Chip Kelly to get his guys to stay focused on this game and not look ahead to the big Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Cowboys. In a similar spot last year against the Chargers, with the big Thursday Night game against KC in their minds, the Birds let victory slip away losing 33-30. The Titans are a much worse team, but I'm concerned the Eagles won't cover the two score spread.
Pick: Titans
Week 13: Thursday, November 27 - Eagles @ Cowboys
Predicted Spread: Eagles -2.5
Preview: If you're anything like me the highlight of the 2014 Eagles schedule was finding out they'd be playing the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. The last time the Eagles played the Cowboys on Thanksgiving was in 1989 the infamous Buddy Ryan Bounty Bowl which saw the Eagles destroying the Cowboys 27-0. Expect the Eagles offense to carve up the much maligned Cowboys defense.
Pick: Eagles
Week 14: Sunday, December 7 - Seahawks @ Eagles
Predicted Spread: Eagles +3
Preview: Unfortunately the Eagles face the NFC West in 2014 and the Seahawks are tough wherever they play. The defensive backfield dubbed the Legion Of Boom will be tough for the Birds to work around. Add in their very physical run game led by Marshawn Lynch and you can see why the Eagles are under dogs. The extra rest from the Thanksgiving game will help, but I still see Seattle prevailing here.
Pick: Seahawks
Week 15: Sunday, December 14 - Cowboys @ Eagles
Predicted Spread: Eagles -6.5
Preview: 6.5 points is a big number in the NFC East. I don't see the Cowboys making the playoffs and this game against the Eagles could be their Super Bowl. I look for them to exhibit a very competitive effort to make up for their Thanksgiving Day loss. Eagles should pull out the victory but covering a full touchdown could be tricky.
Pick: Cowboys
Week 16: Saturday, December 20 - Eagles @ Redskins
Predicted Spread: Eagles -1
Preview: At this point in the season I predict the Redskins chemistry issues will come to rear their ugly head. RG III will struggle to keep both DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon happy. The Eagles will be looking to secure seating in the playoffs and will come away with a nice divisional win.
Pick: Eagles
Week 17: Sunday, December 28 - Eagles @ Giants
Predicted Spread: Pick Em
Preview: The Eagles have owned the Giants in Giants Stadium as of late. This spread could vary drastically based on whether or not the Eagles or Giants have secured a playoff spots. Although the Eagles did show up in 2013 in a very meaningless game against the Bears routing them 54-11 on Sunday Night Football. This game will be a little closer, but still don't see the Birds not covering.
Pick: Eagles
