A lot has been made this off season of the Washington Redskins name. Questions have been asked about whether the name "Redskin" is racially insensitive. Politicians and celebrities have weighed in and shared their thoughts, and even sports writers have claimed they will have to change their name. Which brings me to this: http://rmusdhs.ss4.sharpschool.com/
This is Red Mesa High School in Arizona. They have a student population of almost 100% Navajo Indian decent. The school itself is located on an Indian reservation. Their mascot? The Redskin.
Yes Dan Snyder is a clown of almost Jerry Jones levels, and their attempt to win public support was an epic failure. However I wonder if simply the name Redskin is actually offensive. I'm not a native american so I have no personal knowledge. I have had discussions with friends that have suggested that maybe it's like that other word used to describe another race of people. You know the one I mean. Is it OK to use that word if you are of Native American decent, but not OK if you're, say a middle aged white man? Or is it just a small portion of the population that is easily offended no matter what you try to do.
I know my writing sucks. I'm not a good writer. I know it, now you do too. I'm just wondering how other people feel about this. Is it political correctness out of control? Or is this a real thing.
