NFL Draft Results: Josh Huff to Philadelphia Eagles with No. 86 Pick

Steve Dykes

Meet the No. 86 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and now the newest Philadelphia Eagles member.

With the 86th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select wide receiver Josh Huff from Oregon. Huff obviously played for Chip Kelly while at Oregon. (Duck bias!) Huff is 5-11 and weighs in at 206 lbs. He finished his four year career at Oregon with 144 receptions for 2366 yards (16.4 average) and 24 touchdowns. He also ran the ball18 times for 242 yards and 2 touchdowns. Huff returned a total of 43 kicks for 988 yards (23.0 average).

This pick marks the second time the Eagles have taken a receiver in this draft. The team made the selection of Jordan Matthews at No. 42 earlier on Friday night.

Strengths

Huff is impressive when it comes to getting open. He has clutch hands and will get first downs when counted on to produce. He is likely best in the slot and has no problem going across the middle. He can take a hit and will bounce off tackles. He makes circus catches and quarterbacks trust his hands. He is very talented at getting YAC and is a willing blocker. He is an accomplished returner and could be a successful gunner at the NFL level as well.

Weaknesses

He has average short speed and is an awkward route runner. He is likely going to be limited to slot duty in the NFL and his lack of strength is a bit concerning. His forty-yard dash time implies average speed and he will likely be limited to short-area throws in an attempt to get YAC.
