We all love what Foles did last year, but we also saw his weaknesses, the largest being his occasional indecisiveness, which lead to unnecessary sacks and hits. One in particular might have cost us the playoff game against the Saints, another lead to Foles' concussion and a 2 game losing streak.
Football outsiders did a little write-up where they measured all QB's "True Sack Rate" and determined that Foles takes 35% of his sacks due to coverage sacks, which is nearly the worst in the league (only EJ Manuel is worse). This is leading to negative plays and exposes Foles to punishment which will limit his ability to play.
I re-read some of the draft scouting on Barkley, and a lot of his strengths are the same as Foles: quick decision maker, smart, leadership, accurate with good touch. The lack of a big arm hurt his draft stock, but the same was said of Foles. I think Chip sees in Barkley someone who brings all the pluses Foles does, without the occasional indecisiveness which will prevent Foles from being a truly great starter in this league.FO article
