Kempski's Corner: Eagles Draft Trends - Jimmy Kempski, Philly.com
On today's Kempski's Corner, Philly.com's Jimmy Kempski and Pat Gallen examine the Oregon connection with two of the Eagles' draft picks, as well as the team's emphasis on drafting seniors.
What’s Going on at RB? - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
LeSean McCoy led the NFL in rushing in 2013. It then seemed somewhat odd that the Eagles showed interest in RB prospects Carlos Hyde and Tre Mason, 2 of the top RBs in the recent draft class. That led me to believe the Eagles wanted to add a runner somewhere in the draft. Oops.
Eagles new receiver ready to go to work - Zach Berman, Inquirer
Matthews said he's too invested in adjusting to the Eagles to worry about the six receivers picked ahead of him. But he was not shy about discussing how competitive he is. If his actions back up his words, Matthews' drive could become well known around the NovaCare Complex.
Inside the Pre-Draft Visits - Tim McManus, Birds 24/7
Chip Kelly introduced himself to Beau Allen by running his car into him. "I was sitting and waiting to go in and meet with [Howie Roseman] and all the front office guys, and Coach Kelly was driving around a little remote control car –they use it out on the field because they can’t do motions — and he drove it right into me and was like, ‘Oh, hey Beau, how are you doing?’ And I was like, ‘Hey, Coach.’ "
The PFF 101, No. 7: Evan Mathis - Sam Monson, PFF
What more is there for PFF to say about Evan Mathis? We have been banging the drum for Mathis since he was splitting time in an ill-advised rotation with Nate Livings in Cincinnati. After a healthy contract from Dallas Livings is currently out of the league while Mathis just earned his first All-Pro nomination.
Draft Talk - Brent Cohen, EaglesRewind
Now that everyone’s had a chance to recover from the draft, it’s time to start breaking it down in more detail. I had a few notes earlier this week, but today I want to take things a bit further. First, though (as usual), I have to clear a few things up regarding the TPR model.
Marcus Smith: Critics 'put a chip on my shoulder' - John Gonzalez, CSN Philly
It was a protracted but rare confession -- the first-round pick who freely acknowledged he knows there are doubters and he’s heard what they said. It would have been easy enough for Smith to employ some reflexive trope about how he doesn’t pay attention to outside opinions, easy enough to pivot to a talking point about football and helping the team win until everyone’s eyes glazed over and the assembly moved on in the interest of unearthing something less cliché and more interesting. Smith didn’t go that way.
Michael Sam documentary postponed by OWN Network - SB Nation NFL
The multi-part documentary series slated to follow Michael Sam's attempt to make the St. Louis Rams roster was postponed on Friday, according to Darren Rovell of ESPN. The series was set to air on the Oprah Winfrey Network with OWN president Erik Logan and Sam's agent Cameron Weiss both saying the decision to postpone was made to allow Sam to focus on football.
