This is not a draft grade as much as philosophy and performance under pressure. If we look at the whole draft, it seems like they addressed different positions and got players that could fit in to their system. But did we miss out on something in the 1st round because we didn't want to give up a later round pick ?
Two players that were picked before us really bother me. Odell Beckam Jr and Brandin Cooks. They got Matthews and Huff later, but I really think they wanted one of these guys. And having a Cooks is a lot different then Huff. Matthews is a different type of a receiver, but Odell and Cooks would've been very explosive in this offense. Not sure if I can say that about either Matthews or Huff to that extent. New Orleans wanted Cooks bad enough to make that jump before us to grab the guy, why couldn't we ? And if there is anything that frustrated me in this draft, it was that. Go get the guy that you want in the first round. Not in the second round, in the first round !!! Give up a 3rd or a 4th if you have to, and go get the difference maker for the offense.
It's too late to cry about it now, because it's all said and done, we can't go back on it. But man, if we would've gotten Cooks... instead we trade down since all the players with a first round grade were already taken and grab Marcus Smith ? I think, that was the most frustrating part of this whole process. And they followed it up by having to trade up for Jordan Matthews and maybe reaching for Josh Huff... and that's all she wrote.
They can sell us whatever they want... but to not give up a 4th or even a 3rd to make sure you got Cooks, is simply careless on their part, whoever it is that is calling the shots over there.
