NFL Draft 2014: Chip Kelly says Eagles will work out Jaylen Watkins at both cornerback and safety

Rob Foldy-USA TODAY Sports

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly says defensive back Jaylen Watkins will work out at both cornerback and safety for the Eagles.

With the No. 101 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected cornerback, er... safety, uh... well. Hmm. Maybe the term "defensive back" is the best descriptor here. Watkins is 'officially' listed as a cornerback, but he does have the versatility to play safety as well.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly confirmed that the Eagles will work out Watkins at both cornerback and safety for the time being. This makes sense because the Eagles could use help at both positions. It also makes sense because the Eagles just love versatile players. Look no further than the offseason addition of safety Malcolm Jenkins (a converted cornerback) for a prime example.

Watkins spoke to the media in a conference call shortly after he was drafted. While he did say he feels more comfortable playing cornerback, he also said safety comes more "naturally" to him.

It will be interesting to see where Watkins ends up.
