2014 NFL Draft: Mike Mayock Wouldn't Be Surprised if Teddy Bridgewater Fell Out of the First Round

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Eagles' quarterback picture seems to be fairly settled. Nick Foles returns as the team's starter (for the next 999 years) after coming off an excellent performance in his second year. Former USC quarterbacks Matt Barkley and Mark Sanchez will likely compete for the No. 2 and No. 3 jobs. G.J. Kinne, the best practice squad player of all time, will battle for a spot and perhaps end up on the practice squad again. The Eagles don't need to draft a quarterback.

But that doesn't mean they shouldn't draft one. If the Eagles adhere to their draft strategy of taking the best player available on the board, that could mean taking another quarterback. According to Mike Mayock (via Paul Domowitch of the Daily News), the Eagles could have an interesting decision on their hands. Mayock suggests there's a chance top quarterback prospect Teddy Bridgewater could fall out of the first round entirely.

Well, that's certainly interesting. No disrespect to Mayock, but I don't agree. (And neither does BGN's Imp, who took Bridgewater with the No. 1 pick in the BGN mock draft.) Despite some mock drafts having Bridgewater falling into the late first round range, I still see Bridgewater going fairly high in the draft. There are a lot of QB-needy teams and Bridgewater is arguably the best QB in this draft class. It's not like those mocks are an indication of actual NFL teams' big boards, anyway.

For the sake of discussion, let's entertain the hypothetical. What if Teddy Bridgewater falls to pick No. 22? Should the Eagles take him? On one hand, the Eagles could arguably better use that pick by adding a wide receiver or a defensive player. On the other hand, what if he's too good to pass up? Not to mention Bridgewater could be really good insurance if Foles flounders.

This Bridgewater hypothetical was already discussed on the newest edition of BGN Radio, but now it's time for the rest of you to weigh in the comments and the poll below. Teddy Bridgewater at No. 22 for the Eagles: Yes or No?
