NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock recently released an updated list of his position rankings for the 2014 NFL Draft. Mayock ranked the top 5 players at each position. BGN already reviewed his [top wide receivers], [safeties], and [linebackers]. Today we'll wrap this mini-series up by looking at his favorite cornerbacks. Here's who Mayock listed:
|1||Darqueze Dennard, Michigan State||5-11||199|
|2||Justin Gilbert, Oklahoma State||6-0||202|
|3||Kyle Fuller, Virginia Tech||6-0||190|
|4||Bradley Roby, Ohio State||5-11||194|
|5||Jason Verrett, TCU||5-9||189|
The only change that took place in Mayock's rankings is that Roby and Verrett have switched places since the 2014 NFL Combine.
When it comes to the cornerbacks, I don't see much of a consensus as to who the top player is. Mayock's pick is Dennard, but it seems the other corners aren't too far behind. Gilbert ran the fastest 40 at the combine and also finished third in the bench press. He also has nice size. Roby is a name that was linked to the Eagles recently in Todd McShay's latest mock draft. Verrett, a Mike Kaye favorite, doesn't have the size of the other corners. He's also expected to have surgery on a torn labrum soon.
The Eagles might be OK with the starting cornerbacks they have for now in Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher, but they need immediate depth and more of a long-term answer moving forward. Brandon Boykin is a bright young talent as the team's slot cornerback but it seems the team has no intention of moving him to the outside.
So which one of these draft prospects is your favorite fit for the Eagles?
