How about we eliminate kicking the extra point altogether?

After a touchdown, the team must go for a two point conversion from the five yard line.

Also, field goals would be eliminated. You get four shots to get a first down or punt.

No kickoffs. After a touchdown, put the ball on the 25 yard line and go from there.

A variation that I heard (and therefore can't take credit for) is for the touchdown to be worth 7 points. If the team elects to go for the conversion (not a kick)and makes it they get an additional point. If they miss the conversion you would lose a point and wind up with six points for the touchdown, as it is now. So after any given touchdown the team could net either 6, 7 or 8 points, just like it is now.

It would certainly add some more interest to the extra point. Certainly better than making the extra point a 42 yard field goal.
