Former Eagles President Harry Gamble Passes Away At 83

The Eagles announced the passing of former team president and general manager Harry Gamble on Tuesday. Gamble died at the age of 83. Gamble served as an assistant coach on the Eagles staff in the early 80s. He moved his way up into the Eagles front office as an executive from the mid-80s for about a decade until the mid-90s. Gamble was local to the Philadelphia area, having been born and raised in Pitman, NJ.

Harry Gamble's son, Tom Gamble, is the current Eagles Vice President of Player Personnel. Tom left his job with the 49ers in San Francisco to join the Eagles front office last year in the 2013 offseason. Part of the reason Tom returned to Philadelphia for lateral move (as far as position titles go) was to return home and be close to his family. Multiple teams with GM openings, including the Buccaneers and Dolphins, interviewed Tom Gamble for their vacancies this offseason, but Tom wasn't ready to leave Philadelphia just yet.

Eagles owner Jeff Lurie released the following statement regarding Gamble's passing.

On behalf of the Philadelphia Eagles, we were saddened to learn of the passing of Harry Gamble today. Our sincerest condolences go out to his wife, Joan, his sons, Harry and Tom, and the rest of the Gamble family. [Harry] was an excellent football coach, executive and philanthropist. Gamble will be remembered most for his warm personality, his strong character and his love for his family.
