Philadelphia Eagles Week 4 PFF Grades: The Defense Is Horrible

Justin Edmonds

Who were the best/worst graded Eagles players against the Broncos?

Pro Football Focus is a site that grades NFL player performances. Let's take a look at what they had to say about the performances in Philadelphia's loss to the Broncos.

PFF offers explanation on their grading system on their website. Read more about that here.

OFFENSE

Best

Michael Vick +2.0
Jason Kelce +1.8
Evan Mathis +1.6
Todd Herremans +1.1

Worst

Lane Johnson -3.5
Brent Celek -1.5
Jason Avant -1.0
Jason Peters -1.0

Analysis: Michael Vick produced nearly 300 yards of offense by himself and no turnovers. Jason Kelce and Evan Mathis were graded highly in run blocking, but Mathis was graded negatively in pass protection. Herremans allowed 3 QB hurries but graded OK as a run blocker.

Rookie OT Lane Johnson struggled yet again. Johnson was responsible for a sack and 5 QB hurries. Lane needs improvement, but it's important to note that other rookie OTs in the league are struggling. Celek was negatively graded a run defender and was responsible for 1 QB hurry. He also dropped a vital pass on third down in the redzone that could have been a TD. Peters gave up 4 hurries.

DEFENSE

Best The Least Worst

Cedric Thornton +0.9
Trent Cole 0.0
Bradley Fletcher -0.3

Worst

Cary Williams -3.8
Earl Wolff -3.5
DeMeco Ryans -3.3
Brandon Boykin -2.4
Bennie Logan -2.0
Mychal Kendricks -1.7
Fletcher Cox -1.5
Isaac Sopoaga -1.3
Connor Barwin -1.3
Nate Allen -1.0

Analysis: Nearly everyone was terrible.

Ced Thornton had the best game of any Eagle, credited for 1 sack, 1 hurry, 3 tackles, 1 assisted tackled, 4 stops. Trent Cole managed 2 hurries. Fletcher was the least worst CB on the field, but that really isn't saying too much.

Cary Williams was the Eagles' worst CB. He missed 2 tackles and gave up 2 catches on 3 targets. Earl Wolff also missed 2 tackles and gave up 5 receptions on 5 targets. A tough outing for the rookie making his first NFL start. The rest of the defenders... same story. Missed tackles. Catches allowed. No shocking revelations. The defense was just horrible.
